This cheerful knitted fisherman crocodile is dressed in blue ocean overalls, a striped cream-and-navy shirt, green textured legs, beach sandals, a small crossbody fishing bag, and a removable yellow sun hat. The design also includes a tiny seagull perched on the crocodile’s head, a fishing net, a knitted fish, raised crocodile eyes, white zigzag teeth, and embroidered ocean motifs for a playful seaside finish.
Please note: I strive for accuracy in every pattern, but occasional errors can happen. Thank you for understanding and for enjoying my designs.
Pattern Overview
This pattern is written for a firm, toy-style knitted figure with a rounded crocodile head, soft stuffed body, separate limbs, detailed clothing, and small accessories. The finished crocodile is designed to stand or sit flat for display, with the same friendly proportions shown in the image.
The crocodile has a large green head with a rounded snout, two raised white eyes, black bead-like pupils, a white jagged tooth border, and simple embroidered nostrils. The body is dressed in fitted blue overalls with short legs, shoulder straps, button details, fish motifs, and a front bib pocket.
The tiny seagull is knitted separately and stitched securely to the top of the crocodile’s head. The yellow hat, fish, bag, and fishing net are also made separately so they can be positioned exactly like the photographed display.
Finished Size
- Crocodile height: about 13 inches from sandal sole to top of eyes, not including the seagull.
- Height with seagull: about 15 inches.
- Head width: about 4.75 inches across the widest green section.
- Body width: about 3.75 inches across the overalls.
- Arm length: about 4.25 inches from shoulder to tapered hand.
- Leg length below shorts: about 3 inches.
- Seagull length: about 3 inches from beak to tail.
- Fishing net length: about 5.5 inches including handle.
- Fish length: about 3.25 inches.
- Sun hat diameter: about 4.5 inches.
Skill Level
This is an intermediate toy knitting pattern. A patient beginner can complete it by working slowly, because each section is written stitch by stitch. The small accessories use simple shaping, embroidery, and careful sewing rather than difficult techniques.
- Knitting in the round on double-pointed needles or using magic loop.
- Increasing with kfb and decreasing with k2tog or ssk.
- Working stockinette, ribbing, garter stitch, and simple cables.
- Picking up stitches for clothing edges.
- Seaming, stuffing, and shaping small toy pieces.
- Basic embroidery for eyes, teeth, fish, waves, and clothing details.
Materials
- Yarn A, crocodile green: DK weight yarn, about 75 yd.
- Yarn B, lighter green for snout and leg texture: DK weight yarn, about 25 yd.
- Yarn C, white: DK weight yarn, about 30 yd for eyes, teeth, seagull body, and hat patch.
- Yarn D, blue denim: DK weight yarn, about 60 yd for overalls.
- Yarn E, navy: DK weight yarn, about 25 yd for shirt stripes, sandals, fish motifs, and embroidery.
- Yarn F, cream: DK weight yarn, about 35 yd for shirt stripes, net, sandal soles, and bag body.
- Yarn G, yellow: DK weight yarn, about 35 yd for sun hat.
- Yarn H, tan brown: DK weight yarn, about 20 yd for bag flap, shoulder strap, net handle, and trim.
- Yarn I, orange: small amount for seagull beak and legs.
- Yarn J, gray: small amount for seagull wings and fish.
- Yarn K, pale blue: small amount for fish motifs and bag bobbers.

- Pair of 2.75 mm knitting needles for flat pieces.
- Set of 2.75 mm double-pointed needles or circular needle for magic loop.
- Pair of 3.25 mm needles for the sun hat brim if you want a softer edge.
- Polyester toy stuffing.
- Two 6 mm black safety eyes or black beads for crocodile pupils.
- Two 3 mm black beads or French knots for seagull eyes.
- Two small tan buttons for overall straps.
- Tapestry needle.
- Stitch markers.
- Scrap yarn for holding stitches.
- Optional thin craft wire for the fishing net rim and handle.
Gauge
Work tightly so the stuffing does not show through. Gauge is more important for neat toy fabric than for exact size. If your stitches are loose, go down a needle size.
- Stockinette gauge: 24 stitches and 34 rounds = 4 inches after light blocking.
- Toy fabric gauge: the knitted fabric should feel dense, smooth, and springy.
- Finished stitch look: visible vertical knit columns, similar to the image, with no gaps between stitches.

Important Construction Notes
The crocodile is built from the feet upward in separate pieces. The legs, body, head, arms, and clothing details are knitted separately, then joined by sewing. This gives the plush the soft handmade look shown in the photo and allows the overalls to sit naturally over the round body.
Use firm stuffing in the head, body, and lower legs. Use lighter stuffing in the arms and snout so the limbs can angle gently downward. The crocodile’s arms should sit at about a 35-degree downward angle from the shoulder seams.
When sewing the eyes, place them close together on top of the head. The white eye domes should touch or nearly touch. This placement gives the crocodile the playful upward-looking expression shown in the image.
Crocodile Head
The head is a rounded green dome with a slightly flattened lower jaw area. It is worked in the round from the top down, then shaped with a front snout panel and a white zigzag tooth edge.
Main Head Dome
- With Yarn A and 2.75 mm needles, CO 8 sts. Divide over 3 or 4 needles and join in the round.
- Rnd 1: k all 8 sts.

- Rnd 33: repeat k3, k2tog around. 32 sts.
Pause and stuff the upper head firmly. Shape it into a rounded crocodile head that is wide at the cheeks and slightly flatter at the bottom. Do not close yet, because the neck opening will be used for sewing to the body.
- Rnd 34: repeat k2, k2tog around. 24 sts.
- Rnd 35: k all sts.
- Place these 24 sts on scrap yarn. Leave a 14 inch tail for sewing the head to the body later.
Raised Snout and Mouth Front
The front snout panel gives the crocodile the rounded face visible beneath the eyes. It is knitted flat and sewn to the lower front of the head, leaving the top slightly raised.
- With Yarn A, CO 20 sts.
- Row 1, RS: k all sts.
- Row 2, WS: p all sts.
- Row 3: k2, kfb, k14, kfb, k2. 22 sts.

- Row 18: p all sts.
- BO all sts, leaving a long sewing tail.
Sew the snout panel to the front lower half of the head. Center it over the purl-marked mouth area. Stuff very lightly under the center of the panel before closing the final inch so the mouth protrudes gently.
Green Cable Texture on Head
The image shows decorative raised green texture running down the front of the head. Add this after the snout is attached.
- Cut three 18 inch strands of Yarn B.
- Using duplicate stitch or surface embroidery, make one center wavy line from between the eyes down to the upper snout.
- For the center line, embroider over 2 knit stitches, move down 1 row, shift 1 stitch left, embroider over 2 stitches, move down 1 row, shift 1 stitch right. Repeat 8 times.
- Make one shorter wavy line on each side, each 6 repeats long.
- Keep the lines raised but not tight, so the head stays rounded.

White Zigzag Teeth Border
The white tooth line sits across the lower front of the crocodile’s face in a playful jagged edge. It should look like a zigzag band rather than separate fangs.
- With Yarn C, CO 36 sts.

- Rnd 8: repeat k2, k2tog around. 18 sts.
- Rnd 9: repeat k1, k2tog around. 12 sts.
Stuff each eye firmly so it becomes a neat dome. Insert one black safety eye or bead on the front center of each dome between Rnds 5 and 6. If using beads, sew them after stuffing.
- Rnd 10: k2tog around. 6 sts.
- Cut yarn, thread through remaining sts, pull closed, and weave in.
Sew the two eyes to the top front of the head. Their lower edges should sit about 1 inch above the white tooth line. Place them close together, with only 1 or 2 stitches between the domes.
Body
The body is a soft oval base that will be mostly covered by the blue overalls. The upper section peeks out at the neck and sleeves, so use green yarn for the body foundation.

Seagull Eyes
- Sew one tiny black bead or French knot on each side of the seagull head.
- Place the eyes between Rnds 9 and 10 of the head.
- Keep the eyes close to the beak so the bird looks small and alert.
Attaching the Seagull to the Crocodile
Place the seagull centered on top of the crocodile’s head, slightly behind the eyes. The bird should sit lengthwise from front to back, with the beak pointing in the same direction as the crocodile’s face.
- Thread a tapestry needle with Yarn C.
- Stitch through the lower seagull body and into the green head 6 times.
- Make 2 hidden stitches through the orange legs if added.
- Check that the seagull does not wobble.
- Do not pull too tightly, or the bird body will flatten.
Joining the Head and Body
Place the head on the neck opening with the snout facing forward. The head should be large compared with the body, as in the image. The chin should almost touch the top edge of the overall bib.
- Match the 24 head neck sts to the 24 body neck sts.
- Use mattress stitch around the full neck opening.
- Before closing the final inch, add a little extra stuffing to support the head.
- Angle the head very slightly forward so the eyes look cheerful and visible.
- Secure the back of the neck with 4 extra stitches to prevent leaning.
Assembly of Limbs and Clothing
- Dress the body with the striped shirt band before attaching the arms if possible.
- Slide one striped sleeve onto each arm, with the cream cuff near the hand.
- Sew the arms to the upper sides of the body at shoulder level, just under the head.
- Angle the arms downward and slightly outward.
- Pull the blue overalls over the body and legs.
- Sew the green legs under the shorts, leaving a narrow center gap.
- Attach the feet to the lower legs and make sure both sandals rest flat.
- Sew the overall bib, straps, buttons, and pocket in place.
- Add the bag strap diagonally across the body after the overalls are complete.
Facial Embroidery
- Nostrils: with dark green or navy yarn, embroider two short vertical stitches on the upper snout, about 6 stitches apart.
- Mouth definition: with Yarn A or slightly darker green, make a shallow curved line just above the white tooth border.
- Cheek shaping: insert the needle at the back of the head, come out near the left side of the snout, pull gently, and repeat on the right side.
- Eye expression: add one tiny white catchlight stitch on each black pupil if you used black beads.
Extra Texture Details
The photographed crocodile has visible handmade stitch definition. To match this, do not brush or over-steam the fabric. Keep the stockinette neat, the overalls slightly textured, and the green skin ridged at the legs.
- Add 4 short vertical green stitches on each upper arm for subtle scale texture.
- Add 3 short green stitches above each side of the tooth border.
- Use duplicate stitch on the lower legs to emphasize the vertical lines if your yarn is very smooth.
- Add a few pale blue duplicate stitches on the overalls to imitate worn denim highlights.
Final Assembly and Facial Detailing
Check the full figure from the front before tying off any final threads. The head should be centered, the eyes should sit high and close together, and the seagull should be balanced on the crown. The white zigzag teeth should form a clear smiling border across the green face.
- Make sure the overalls sit evenly at the waist.
- Confirm that both buttons are level.
- Adjust the bag so it hangs diagonally across the chest.
- Place the fishing net beside the crocodile or tack it lightly to one hand.
- Set the fish near the feet or inside the net for display.
- Place the yellow hat beside the crocodile, or let it rest behind one arm as a removable prop.
Care Notes
Spot clean the finished toy with a damp cloth and mild soap. Avoid soaking if you used buttons, beads, wire, or glued details. Let the toy air dry flat on a towel, turning it occasionally so the stuffing dries evenly.
- Do not machine wash if the seagull, bag, hat patch, or net contains small sewn details.
- Do not tumble dry.
- Reshape the brim of the hat by hand while damp.
- Keep the toy away from rough Velcro, sharp hooks, and pets that may pull the stitches.

Detailed Cleaning and Preservation Guidelines
Store the crocodile upright or lying flat in a dry place away from direct sunlight. Long exposure to sunlight may fade the blue overalls, green body, and yellow hat. If the toy is displayed on a shelf, dust it gently with a clean soft brush.
For long-term storage, wrap the crocodile loosely in acid-free tissue or a clean cotton cloth. Do not compress the seagull, eye domes, bag, or hat brim. Keep the fishing net flat so the mesh does not stretch unevenly.
- Refresh flattened stuffing by gently rolling the body between your hands.
- Smooth loose fibers with clean fingers rather than trimming them too aggressively.
- Check button and bead attachments regularly if the toy is handled often.
- If a strand loosens, thread it to the inside with a tapestry needle instead of cutting it short.
- Keep accessories together in a small fabric pouch when not displayed.
Your fisherman crocodile is now complete, with its cheerful seaside outfit, tiny bird companion, fishing net, knitted fish, sunny hat, and crossbody bag. Arrange the accessories around the crocodile for the same playful handmade scene shown in the image.
