This friendly knitted snake is a bright garden character with a rounded green head, long soft arms, sturdy legs, patchwork overalls, striped panels, tiny embroidered flowers, a mushroom pocket, sandals with ladybugs, a spiral sunhat, a bow, a small flower, butterflies, and a miniature watering can. The design is worked as a stuffed toy with firm shaping, neat seams, and detailed surface decoration.
Please note: I strive for accuracy in every pattern, but occasional errors can happen. Thank you for understanding and for enjoying my designs.
Pattern Overview
This pattern creates a cheerful snake doll with a smooth green body and a tall rounded head. The head is wider at the lower face, narrows slightly near the top, and has large raised white eyes. The tongue is red and forked, placed at the center front below the face.
The outfit is the main feature. The overalls are knitted in separate patch panels, then sewn around the body and legs. The left side has floral blue and olive patches. The right side has yellow and blue stripes, a green pocket with a red mushroom, and a patterned lower leg panel.
- Finished height: about 15 inches from shoe sole to top of head.
- Finished width: about 9 inches across the arms when relaxed.
- Skill level: adventurous beginner to intermediate.

Important Knitting Notes
Use a tight gauge so the stuffing does not show through the fabric. The toy in the image has smooth stockinette surfaces, rounded stuffed shaping, and small decorative pieces sewn firmly on top. Do not overstuff the neck, because the head should sit tall but still look softly rounded.
Every major body piece is knitted flat. Seam with the mattress stitch where possible. When a piece is very small, use a backstitch seam with matching yarn. The front of the toy is the side where the tongue, overalls bib, mushroom pocket, and sandal ladybugs are placed.
- Leave 10 to 12 inch yarn tails on most pieces for sewing.
- Stuff gradually while closing seams, not only at the end.
- Pin the overalls panels in place before sewing to keep the patchwork balanced.
- Use duplicate stitch or embroidery for small flowers, hearts, stripes, and dots.
Main Green Head
The head is tall, oval, and snake-like, with a slightly wider lower face and a rounded top. It is knitted from the lower neck upward, then seamed at the back. The front should remain smooth, so place the seam at the center back.

Fold the head with RS facing out. Sew the back seam from the top down to the cast-on edge. Stuff firmly at the cheeks and lightly near the top. Shape the lower face by adding extra stuffing to the front lower half.
Neck and Blue Collar
The neck is a short cylinder visible below the head. It is green at the center but covered by a blue striped collar. This creates the image of a narrow snake neck emerging from patchwork overalls.
Green Neck Tube

- Rows 1 to 12: work in st st.
- BO all sts, leaving a long tail.
- Sew the side seam to form a tube.

Wrap the collar band around the lower neck. Overlap the short ends at the back and sew them together. The band should cover the upper edge of the overalls and look like a ribbed blue collar.
Body Base
The body under the overalls is a soft green torso that narrows at the neck and widens slightly at the hips. Most of it will be covered, but the shape must be stable because the patchwork clothing is sewn onto it.

Seam each arm from the wrist to the shoulder. Stuff the hand end firmly and the upper arm more lightly. Sew each arm to the side of the upper body at a downward angle, about 1 inch below the collar.
Green Legs
The legs are visible below the overalls and lead into rounded feet. Each leg is green, slender, and straight. The sandals are added later over the feet, so keep the foot surface smooth.

Fold each leg lengthwise and sew the back seam. Stuff firmly. Sew the upper edge of each leg to the lower body, leaving a small gap between the legs so the overalls can divide clearly at the center.
Rounded Green Feet
The feet are wide and soft, with the toe pointing slightly forward. The sandal soles and straps are sewn on top. The foot should look like a smooth oval shoe shape before decoration.
Make 2 Feet
- With bright green yarn, CO 8 sts.

Make a second matching foot piece for each foot, so you have four foot ovals total. Sew two ovals together for each foot, leaving the ankle end open. Stuff firmly. Sew each foot to the lower end of a leg with the wider rounded end facing forward.
Patchwork Overalls Base
The overalls are made from separate panels sewn onto the body. This gives the patchwork look seen in the image. Use neat edges and visible color changes. The overall shape has a bib at the front, two legs, shoulder straps, and many contrasting patches.

Flower Embroidery on Overalls
The patchwork overalls need many tiny flowers. Keep them small and scattered, like the image. Use red, yellow, white, pink, orange, and green yarn tails. Each flower should be no wider than 3 knitted stitches.

- For petals, make 5 straight stitches radiating outward from the center.
- For leaves, make 1 or 2 green straight stitches beside selected flowers.
- Keep the yarn tension light so the patches do not pucker.
Large White Eyes
The snake has two raised white eyes placed high on the face. They sit close together and point outward slightly, giving the friendly surprised expression shown in the picture.

- Cut yarn and fasten.
- Return to the remaining 2 sts. Divide them into two single ends if possible and work each for 4 rows.

- Embroider pink, red, or blue dots on the wings.
- Add two black antennae with straight stitches.
For the blue butterfly, use pale blue wings with pink and red dots. For the pink butterfly, use bright pink wings with yellow centers. Keep both butterflies flat and lightweight.
Back of the Overalls
The back should be simpler than the front but still colorful. Use leftover patch colors to make a rear bib and two leg panels. This keeps the toy attractive from all angles while allowing the detailed front to remain the focus.
- With olive green yarn, CO 18 sts and work 18 rows in st st for the back upper panel.
- With denim blue yarn, CO 14 sts and work 20 rows in st st for one back leg panel.
- With yellow and turquoise yarn, CO 14 sts and work 20 rows in 2-row stripes for the second back leg panel.
- Sew the upper back panel below the shoulder straps.
- Sew one leg panel to the back of each overall leg.
Use a few small embroidered flowers on the back, but keep them lighter than the front. This gives a handmade patchwork effect without making the rear too busy.
Seaming the Overalls Around the Body
After all front and back patches are knitted, pin them onto the green body and legs. The front striped bib should be centered. The side seams of the overalls should meet under the arms and along the outer legs.
- Pin the front bib first, starting just below the blue collar.
- Pin the left upper floral patch beside the bib.
- Pin the right olive pocket panel beside the bib.
- Pin the lower leg panels so they cover the green leg tops but leave green ankles visible.
- Sew each patch with tiny whipstitches in matching yarn.
- Do not sew through both sides of the stuffed body at once. Catch only the surface layer.
- After sewing, smooth the patches with your fingers so they follow the rounded body shape.
Facial Placement Guide
The expression depends on accurate placement. The eyes should be high and close together. The tongue should be centered below them. The bow and flower should frame the top of the head without covering the eyes.
- Place the eye whites between Rows 27 and 37 of the head piece.
- Leave about 1 stitch between the inner edges of the eyes.
- Attach the tongue at the center front, about 5 rows below the eyes.
- Sew the flower to the viewer’s left side, slightly angled outward.
- Sew the bow to the viewer’s right top edge, tilted gently toward the face.
Stuffing and Shape Control
Stuffing controls the personality of this toy. The head should be firm enough to stand upright, while the arms and clothing should remain soft. Overstuffing the arms can make them stick out too stiffly.
- Head: firm at lower face, medium at top.
- Neck: light to medium stuffing.
- Body: firm enough to support the overalls.
- Arms: firm at hands, softer at shoulders.
- Legs: firm and even so the toy sits neatly.
- Feet: firm at toes, flat at soles.
Optional Display Layout
To recreate the full image arrangement, place the snake doll in the center. Put the spiral hat to the left side, the watering can to the lower right side, and the butterflies around the upper right area. These accessories do not need to be attached to the doll.
- Hat sits beside the doll, brim spread flat.
- Watering can rests near the right foot.
- Blue butterfly sits above the watering can.
- Pink butterfly sits near the middle right side.
- Bee is attached to the hat brim.
Final Assembly and Facial Detailing
- Sew the neck securely to the body.
- Sew the head onto the neck, making sure the face points forward.
- Attach the arms at matching heights on both sides.
- Sew the legs and feet in place before attaching the lower overall panels.
- Pin all overalls patches before sewing permanently.
- Add the straps, pink buttons, mushroom pocket, and embroidery.
- Sew the eyes, pupils, tongue, head flower, and bow last.
- Shape the face gently by pressing the sides inward and smoothing the lower cheeks.
Check that the doll looks balanced from the front. The green arms should angle downward, the legs should hang straight, and the head should remain tall with a friendly expression.

Detailed Cleaning and Preservation Guidelines
Store the snake doll in a dry place with good airflow. Keep it away from heavy objects that could flatten the head, bow, hat brim, or watering can. If displaying for a long time, rotate the toy occasionally so one side does not collect dust or fade unevenly.
For dust removal, use a soft brush and work gently around the embroidered flowers, mushroom, ladybugs, and butterfly details. If a thread loosens, pull it to the inside with a tapestry needle instead of trimming it close to the surface.
When packing the toy, wrap the snake and accessories separately in soft tissue. Do not compress the hat brim. Keep the butterflies flat between two pieces of paper so the wings stay neat and smooth.
