This sweet knitted fawn wears moss-green and taupe embroidered overalls, a tiny crossbody mushroom bag, leafy flower crown, and soft garden sandals. The design features a cream face with a rust-brown forehead panel, large rounded ears, slim rust arms and legs, glossy safety eyes, a black embroidered nose, and delicate floral details across the bib and shorts.
Please note: I strive for accuracy in every pattern, but occasional errors can happen. Thank you for understanding and for enjoying my designs.
Pattern Overview
This pattern is written to create a seated-style fawn doll inspired by the image, with a rounded head, narrow neck, compact body, long hanging legs, slim arms, oversized fawn ears, embroidered overalls, sandals, flower crown, small mushroom purse, watering can, potted plant, and straw hat accessory.
The toy is worked mostly in the round using double-pointed needles or a small circular needle with magic loop. Small flat pieces are used for ear lining, straps, flower petals, sandal straps, and accessory details. All stitch counts are included so the shaping stays controlled and close to the pictured doll.
Finished Size
- Main fawn height: about 10.5 in / 26.5 cm from ear tip to sandal sole.
- Head width: about 4 in / 10 cm across the cheeks.
- Body height: about 3.25 in / 8 cm from neck to lower overalls.
- Leg length: about 3.25 in / 8 cm from shorts hem to sandal sole.
- Arm length: about 3 in / 7.5 cm from shoulder to black hoof tip.
- Bag size: about 1.5 in / 4 cm wide.
Yarn and Materials
- Sport weight or light DK yarn in cream for face, muzzle, neck, and inner ears.
- Sport weight or light DK yarn in rust brown for forehead, ears, arms, lower legs, and hoof area.
- Sport weight or light DK yarn in moss green for overall waistband, cuffs, straps, crown vine, leaves, and sandal accents.
- Sport weight or light DK yarn in taupe beige for overalls, bag, sandals, hat, and plant pot accents.
- Small amount of black yarn for hoof tips, nose, and mouth embroidery.
- Small amounts of flower colors: dusty pink, cream, yellow, orange, pale blue, and muted rose.
- 3 mm double-pointed needles or circular needle for magic loop.
- 2.5 mm needles for flowers, straps, and tight accessories.
- Two black safety eyes, 10 mm to 12 mm.
- Polyester fiberfill for stuffing.
- Tapestry needle for seaming and embroidery.
- Two tiny tan buttons for the overall straps.
- Optional: thin craft wire for the watering can handle and flower crown shape.
- Stitch markers, pins, scissors, and row counter.
Gauge
Gauge is important for a firm toy fabric. Work tightly enough that stuffing does not show through the stitches. Using 3 mm needles, 26 stitches and 36 rounds in stockinette should measure about 4 in / 10 cm before stuffing.
If your stitches are loose, go down to 2.75 mm needles. If your fabric is very stiff and difficult to knit, go up to 3.25 mm, but keep all pieces consistent so the proportions remain balanced.

Construction Notes
The head is shaped first, starting at the top with a rust-brown forehead section and changing into cream for the cheeks and lower face. The face panel is placed at the front, while the back and sides remain softly rounded.
The body is knitted from the neck downward, with the cream shirt section blending into taupe shorts and moss-green cuffs. The overalls are built directly onto the body with color changes, then decorated with embroidered flowers.
The arms and legs are knitted separately and sewn at slight downward angles. The ears are made with rust outer pieces and cream inner pieces. The flower crown is a narrow knitted vine with small sewn flowers placed across the top of the head.
Main Head
Use 3 mm needles. Begin at the top of the head with rust-brown yarn. Work in the round. Keep the beginning of the round at the center back of the head.

Leave the 20 neck stitches live if you want to join directly to the body. If you prefer sewing, BO loosely and leave a 16 in tail.
Muzzle Patch and Nose
The muzzle is a small raised cream oval sewn over the lower face. This extra layer creates the soft snout area seen under the eyes and gives the black nose a stable surface.
- With cream yarn and 3 mm needles, CO 8 sts.
- Row 1: P all sts.
- Row 2: K1, M1R, K6, M1L, K1. 10 sts.

- BO all sts, leaving a long sewing tail.
Sew the muzzle centered on the lower front of the head, with its top edge just below the midpoint between the eyes. Stuff it lightly while sewing so it rises gently instead of lying flat.
For the nose, use black yarn and satin stitch across 5 stitches wide and 4 rows high at the top center of the muzzle. Make 8 to 10 horizontal stitches, then wrap once around the center to round the nose. Add one straight vertical stitch down from the nose for the mouth line.
Body and Overalls Base
The body begins at the neck with cream yarn, then moves into the embroidered overalls. The cream upper chest should remain visible as a shirt beneath the green straps and taupe bib.
- With cream yarn, pick up or CO 20 sts at the neck. Join in the round.

Stuff the body firmly but not as tightly as the head. The lower body should have a rounded shorts shape, with the front slightly full so the overalls look puffed like the image.
Divide for Overall Shorts
The shorts are created by dividing the lower body into two leg openings. Each side is finished with a moss-green cuff. This gives the fawn the short, garden-style overall legs shown in the picture.
- Place first 20 sts on one needle for the right short leg.
- Place remaining 20 sts on a holder for the left short leg.
- Right short leg Rnd 1: Join taupe yarn, K all 20 sts.
- Rnd 2: K all sts.
- Rnd 3: K all sts.
- Rnd 4: Change to moss green. K all sts.
- Rnd 5: P all sts to create a small garter ridge.
- Rnd 6: K all sts.
- Rnd 7: P all sts.
- BO knitwise, leaving a neat cuff edge.
Repeat exactly for the left short leg using the 20 held stitches. Close any small gap between the legs with taupe yarn, using mattress stitch and a little extra stuffing if needed.
Overall Bib
The bib is knitted flat and sewn onto the cream chest and upper taupe body. It should sit from the lower neck to the green waistband, leaving cream shirt visible at the sides.
- With taupe beige yarn and 3 mm needles, CO 18 sts.
- Row 1: P all sts.
- Row 2: K all sts.
- Rows 3 to 8: Continue stockinette, ending after a K row.
- Row 9: P2tog, P14, P2tog. 16 sts.

- Row 12: K all sts.
- Row 13: P all sts.
- Row 14: K all sts.
- BO all sts, leaving a sewing tail.
Sew the bib centered on the front. The bottom edge should overlap the green waistband by 1 row. The top edge should sit just below the neck, as in the image.
Overall Straps
The moss-green straps cross visually over the shoulders and fasten with tiny buttons on the front bib. Knit two identical straps.
- With moss green yarn and 2.5 mm needles, CO 5 sts.
- Row 1: K all sts.
- Row 2: P all sts.
- Repeat Rows 1 and 2 until strap measures 4 in / 10 cm.
- Next row: K1, K2tog, yarn over, K2 to make a buttonhole. 5 sts.
- Work 2 more rows in stockinette.
- BO all sts.
Sew the back end of each strap to the upper back of the overalls. Bring each strap over the shoulder and attach at the front bib with a tiny tan button. Place the buttons symmetrically, about 5 sts apart.
Arms
The fawn’s arms are slim, rust brown, and hang downward from the shoulders. Each arm has a black hoof tip, matching the little black hands in the image.
- With black yarn and 3 mm needles, CO 8 sts. Join in the round.
- Rnd 1: K all sts. 8 sts.
- Rnd 2: Inc in every st. 16 sts.

- Rnd 27: K4, K2tog; rep around. 10 sts.
- Rnd 28: K all sts.
- Stuff lightly, keeping the arm flexible.
- BO all sts, leaving a long tail.
Make a second arm the same way. Sew the arms to the sides of the body just below the head. Angle them slightly outward at the top and downward so they rest alongside the overalls.
Legs
The legs are rust brown and long compared with the body. They hang below the shorts and end in rounded feet with taupe sandals. Work two identical legs.
- With rust-brown yarn and 3 mm needles, CO 10 sts. Join in the round.
- Rnd 1: K all sts. 10 sts.
- Rnd 2: K1, inc; rep around. 15 sts.
- Rnds 3 to 22: K all sts for 20 rounds.

Make two cream flowers. Sew the rust flower at the center top of the head. Sew one cream flower on each side, close to the ears. Add two small green leaf stitches beside each flower.
Embroidered Overalls
The floral embroidery is essential for matching the image. Use short straight stitches, lazy daisy stitches, and French knots. Keep each motif small so it looks delicate and hand-stitched rather than bulky.
Front Bib Embroidery
- Center stems: Use moss-green yarn. Make 5 vertical straight stitches, each 3 rows tall, rising from the lower bib.
- Pink flower: Add 3 dusty-pink lazy daisy petals at the center top of the stems.
- Orange buds: Add 3 rust-orange French knots, one on each side of the pink flower.
- Yellow buds: Add 2 tiny yellow French knots near the lower sides of the stems.
- Leaves: Use moss green to make 6 diagonal leaf stitches, each crossing 1 stitch wide and 2 rows high.
Shorts Embroidery
- Left short leg: Add one pale blue flower with 4 lazy daisy petals, one yellow center knot, and two green leaves.
- Right short leg: Add two rust-orange French knot flowers with green stems and small cream accent stitches.
- Lower cuffs: Add tiny yellow and pink knots above the moss-green cuff, spacing them about 4 sts apart.
- Side flowers: Place one small rose-pink knot cluster near each outer hip.
Do not overload the fabric. The embroidery should look scattered and natural, like a miniature meadow stitched onto the overalls.
Crossbody Mushroom Bag

Facial Embroidery and Eye Shaping
Use cream sewing yarn or matching yarn tails to pull small shaping stitches near the eyes. Insert the needle behind the head, come out at the inner lower corner of one eye, pass under one stitch, and return to the back. Repeat once for each eye and pull gently.
Add two small black curved stitches near the outer upper edge of each eye to suggest the tiny lashes shown in the image. Keep the lashes short, only about 2 stitches long, so the face remains soft and balanced.

- Make and attach the crossbody bag.
- Knit optional watering can, potted plant, and hat.
Detailed Finishing Tips
When sewing the head to the body, keep the face looking forward and slightly downward. This angle gives the fawn a gentle seated look. Use a full circle of stitches around the neck, then stitch around again for strength.
The ears should not point straight up. Pin them first, then tilt the lower edges slightly toward the face. The outer edges should flare outward, creating a wide fawn profile similar to the image.
For the overalls, do not pull the embroidery too tightly. Tight stitches can dent the body and distort the fabric. Keep each flower floating gently on the surface of the knitted fabric.
The bag strap should cross from one shoulder to the opposite hip. Tack the strap to the shoulder with one hidden stitch so it stays in place when the doll is handled.
Final Assembly and Facial Detailing
Check that the eyes are even and the muzzle is centered before securing every thread. Add the black nose last so it remains clean and raised. Shape the cheeks by gently rolling the stuffed head between your palms.
- Ear placement: high, wide, and slightly forward.
- Arm angle: downward with black hoof tips facing inward.
- Leg placement: slightly forward under the shorts.
- Flower crown: centered between the ears.
- Bag: resting on the front hip with mushroom facing outward.
Care Notes
Spot clean the fawn with cool water and mild soap. Do not soak if you used safety eyes, buttons, or craft wire. Press out moisture with a towel and let the toy air dry flat.
- Do not machine wash if the doll includes buttons or wired accessories.
- Keep away from strong heat to protect the yarn shape.
- Brush lightly with your fingers to smooth the stitches after drying.

Detailed Cleaning and Preservation Guidelines
Store the finished fawn in a dry place away from direct sunlight. If displayed on a shelf, support the legs so the seams do not stretch over time. Keep the small accessories beside the doll rather than under heavy objects.
To refresh the embroidery, smooth the flowers with a clean fingertip and gently lift any flattened petals. If the hat brim curls, place it under a light book for a few hours, making sure the flower decorations are not crushed.
For long-term storage, wrap the fawn in acid-free tissue or a soft cotton cloth. Avoid plastic bags in humid areas, because trapped moisture can affect the yarn and stuffing.
