Please note: I strive for accuracy in every pattern, but occasional errors can happen. Thank you for understanding and for enjoying my designs.

Finished Size

  • Lamb doll: about 11.5 in tall from sandals to top of fluffy head.
  • Head width: about 4 in after stuffing.
  • Dress length: about 4 in from neckline to hem.
  • Cardigan: cropped, open front, about 3.25 in long.
  • Blue hat: about 4.75 in across brim.
  • Basket: about 2 in wide.
  • Notebook: about 1.75 in tall.

Skill Level

Confident beginner to intermediate. The doll uses simple increases, decreases, seaming, embroidery, loop stitch, small knitted appliques, and neat assembly. Most pieces are worked flat, then seamed and stuffed to create the soft rounded shape shown in the photo.

Materials

  • DK weight yarn in lamb beige, cream white, pale pink, sky blue, ivory, brown, red, green, orange, and tiny amounts of darker pink, yellow, lavender, and rose.
  • US 3 knitting needles, 3.25 mm.
  • US 2 knitting needles, 2.75 mm, for small accessories and tighter edges.
  • Polyester fiberfill stuffing.
  • Two 6 mm dark brown safety eyes or embroidered eyes.
  • Small white button for cardigan, about 6 mm.
  • Tapestry needle.
  • Embroidery needle.
  • Two stitch holders or scrap yarn.
  • Removable stitch markers.
  • Blush powder or pink yarn for cheek detail.

Gauge

  • Doll stockinette gauge: 26 sts and 36 rows = 4 in using US 3 needles.
  • Accessory gauge: 28 sts and 38 rows = 4 in using US 2 needles.
  • Gauge is not critical, but firm knitting is important so stuffing does not show through.

Abbreviations

  • CO: cast on.
  • BO: bind off.
  • k: knit.
  • p: purl.
  • st or sts: stitch or stitches.
  • RS: right side.
  • WS: wrong side.
  • kfb: knit into front and back of same stitch.
  • p2tog: purl 2 stitches together.
  • k2tog: knit 2 stitches together.
  • ssk: slip, slip, knit slipped stitches together.
  • sl1: slip 1 stitch purlwise.
  • st st: stockinette stitch, knit RS rows and purl WS rows.
  • garter st: knit every row.
  • loop st: knit 1 while wrapping yarn around your thumb to make a loop before completing the stitch.

Pattern Notes

  • The lamb is knitted in separate pieces and sewn together.
  • Use beige for the lamb skin, cream for the fluffy wool, blue for the cardigan and sandals, and pink for the floral dress.
  • Leave long yarn tails on every body piece for sewing.
  • Stuff each piece firmly but not tightly. The finished doll should look soft and rounded.
  • The dress is knitted separately and sewn around the body. The cardigan stays open at the front like the image.
  • The fluffy head wool is made with loop stitch and extra small loop-stitch patches sewn around the top of the head.

Sew the back seam from the crown to the lower chin. Stuff the head firmly, shaping the cheeks with your fingers. The widest part should sit slightly below the eyes, giving the lamb the gentle rounded expression seen in the image.

Fluffy Cream Wool Cap

The top of the head has a thick cloud of cream curls. Use loop stitch for the main cap, then add smaller loop patches to make the surface look full and bumpy.

Main Wool Cap

  1. With cream yarn and US 3 needles, CO 14 sts.

Place the wool cap over the top half of the head, beginning just above the eyebrows and wrapping around the sides. Sew it down with cream yarn, letting some loops fall forward over the forehead.

Sew the patches randomly over the cap: three near the front, two at the crown, and one on each side. This gives the lamb the thick curly fleece shown in the photo.

  • French-knot bud: wrap yarn once around the needle, insert close to the starting point, and pull through gently.
  • Leaf: make one short straight stitch with green yarn, then a second angled stitch beside it.
  • Flower center: use yellow or cream yarn and make one tiny straight stitch or French knot.

  • Steam lightly from a distance if needed, but do not flatten the loop-stitch wool.

Care Notes

  • Brush the fluffy wool loops gently with your fingers only.
