This sweet knitted mouse is designed with a soft beige body, oversized round ears with pink centers, a white muzzle, glossy black eyes, a tiny pink nose, and a long curved tail. The outfit includes blue meadow-style overalls with yellow and green colorwork, shoulder straps, small buttons, a crossbody pouch, flower appliques, sandals, a garden hat with a bow, a tiny watering can, and a spotted mushroom.
Please note: I strive for accuracy in every pattern, but occasional errors can happen. Thank you for understanding and for enjoying my designs.
Finished Size
Using DK yarn and US 2 needles, the finished mouse measures about 11.5 inches from the top of the head to the bottom of the feet. The head is large and rounded, the body is smaller and dressed in puffy overalls, and the ears are wide to match the gentle garden-mouse style shown in the photo.
- Mouse height: about 11.5 inches
- Head width: about 4.25 inches across the cheeks
- Ear width: about 2 inches each after shaping
- Overall leg length: about 2.25 inches
- Garden hat: about 3.25 inches wide
- Watering can: about 2.25 inches wide including handle and spout
- Mushroom: about 2 inches tall
Skill Level
This pattern is suitable for adventurous beginners and intermediate knitters. Most pieces are knitted in the round using simple increases and decreases. Small details such as the overalls, sandals, flowers, pouch, hat, watering can, and mushroom are worked separately and sewn in place.
Materials
- DK weight yarn in warm beige for the head, body, arms, legs, and outer ears
- DK weight yarn in soft pink for inner ears, paws, feet, nose, and tail
- DK weight yarn in white for muzzle and flower
- DK weight yarn in turquoise blue for the overalls, sandals, hat, and pouch
- DK weight yarn in pale yellow for meadow colorwork, hat center, sandal soles, flowers, and buttons if knitted
- DK weight yarn in light green for leaves, straps, vines, bow, and watering can stripe
- A small amount of brown or tan yarn for sandal soles and watering can base
- Black embroidery thread for eyebrows, eyelashes, and mouth details
- Two 10 mm black safety eyes or embroidered eyes
- Six tiny wooden buttons, about 3/8 inch wide
- Fiberfill stuffing
- US 2 double-pointed needles or circular needles for magic loop
- US 1 needles for firm small accessories, optional
- Tapestry needle

- Scrap yarn for holding stitches
- Sewing needle and matching thread for buttons
Gauge
Gauge is important because the doll should be firm enough to hold its shape. Work a small swatch in stockinette stitch using the beige yarn. A gauge of about 7 stitches and 10 rounds per inch gives a dense toy fabric with minimal stuffing showing through.
- Main doll gauge: 28 sts and 40 rounds = 4 inches in stockinette stitch
- Accessory gauge: 30 sts and 42 rows = 4 inches for smaller firm pieces
- Needle adjustment: go down one needle size if stuffing shows through

Pattern Notes
The mouse is knitted from separate pieces and then sewn together. The head is rounded and slightly wider through the cheeks. The muzzle is shaped as a white oval patch sewn to the lower front of the face. The ears are made from beige outer pieces and pink inner pieces layered together.
The overalls are worked separately so they sit visibly over the body, with a full bib, rounded shorts, shoulder straps, buttons, and decorative meadow-style stitches. The small accessories are optional for play, but they complete the exact garden look of the pictured design.
- Stuff the head firmly so the face stays round.
- Stuff arms and legs more lightly so they remain soft and slightly bendable.
- Sew all small accessories securely if the doll is for display.
- For a child-safe version, embroider the eyes instead of using safety eyes.

Pink Nose and Mouth
The nose is a small satin-stitched pink triangle centered near the top of the white muzzle. It should sit between the eyes and point downward gently.
- Thread a tapestry needle with pink yarn.
- Make a triangle about 4 stitches wide and 3 rows tall at the top center of the muzzle.
- Fill the triangle with horizontal satin stitches until softly rounded.
- Bring the yarn down from the nose point and make one vertical stitch about 1/3 inch long.

Sew the cap to the top of the stem. With white yarn, embroider 8 to 10 small dots across the mushroom cap. Keep the dots unevenly spaced for a handmade woodland look.
Facial Embroidery
The face should look gentle and friendly. Use black embroidery thread for the brows and small eyelashes. The eyebrows are curved and sit high above the eyes, giving the mouse a sweet expression.
- Embroider one curved eyebrow above each eye using 2 small backstitches.
- Add two tiny eyelashes at the outer corner of each eye.
- Keep the stitches short so they do not overpower the soft face.
- Check that the nose is centered before securing the thread inside the head.
Assembly Order
Assembly is easiest when all pieces are fully knitted, blocked lightly by hand, and dry. Pin every part in place before sewing. This helps preserve the correct proportions: large head, smaller body, round ears, short arms, slim legs, and puffy overalls.
- Sew the head to the body with the neck centered and stable.
- Sew the ears to the sides of the head between Rnds 13 and 20. Angle them slightly outward and upward.
- Sew the muzzle to the lower front of the face.
- Add the pink nose, mouth, brows, and eyelashes.
- Sew arms to the upper sides of the body, just below the neck seam.
- Sew legs to the lower body so they hang straight below the overalls.
- Sew the tail to the lower back, slightly to one side.
- Dress the mouse in the overalls and tack the waistband at the back, sides, and front so it stays in place.
- Attach the straps and front buttons.
- Sew on the pouch, flowers, and leaves.
- Attach sandals around the feet.
- Sew the head flower and leaves near the left ear.
- Place the hat, watering can, and mushroom beside the mouse for display.
Finishing the Overalls on the Doll
Slide the overalls onto the body from the feet upward before attaching the arms if you prefer easier dressing. If the arms are already attached, gently compress the body and guide the straps over the shoulders. The bib should sit centered on the chest.
- Use small blue stitches to tack the side seams to the body.
- Do not sew the whole outfit down flat; leave it softly raised.
- Place two buttons at the bib top, one on each side.
- Add one button to the pouch flap if desired.
- Add one button to each sandal ankle strap.
Colorwork Placement Guide
The overalls in the image have a soft variegated meadow effect. If you are not using variegated yarn, create the look with small scattered stitches. Do not make a strict stripe pattern. The color changes should feel organic, like tiny leaves and flowers across the blue fabric.
- Use blue as the main color for at least 70 percent of the overalls.
- Add pale yellow stitches on the bib, center belly, and lower legs.
- Add light green stitches near the waistband, straps, and pouch.
- Keep the flower appliques small so the overalls remain readable.
- Use duplicate stitch after knitting if stranded colorwork feels too advanced.
Optional Embroidered Meadow Dots
If you want the overalls to look closer to the photo, add extra yellow and green duplicate stitches after the overalls are complete. Work these stitches over single knit stitches, spacing them irregularly around the bib, belly, and leg openings.
- Thread a tapestry needle with pale yellow yarn.
- Duplicate stitch over 12 to 18 random blue stitches.
- Repeat with light green yarn over 10 to 14 stitches.
- Keep the stitches flat and avoid pulling tightly.
- Secure all yarn ends on the inside of the overalls.
Final Assembly and Facial Detailing
Once all pieces are attached, gently shape the head, cheeks, ears, and body with your hands. The face should be centered, with the white muzzle below the eyes and the pink nose sitting at the top of the muzzle.
- Check that both ears are even and open outward.
- Check that the eyes are level before final tightening.
- Brush away loose fibers around the muzzle with your fingers.

Care Notes
This knitted mouse is best used as a display piece or gentle handmade gift. Because it includes buttons and small accessories, it should not be given to babies or very young children unless all small parts are embroidered or permanently secured in a child-safe way.
- Spot clean with cool water and mild soap.
- Do not machine wash if using wooden buttons or safety eyes.
- Lay flat to dry on a towel.
- Reshape the ears, overalls, hat, and sandals while damp.
Quick Checklist Before You Finish
- The head is round, firm, and slightly wider at the cheeks.
- The ears have beige rims and soft pink centers.
- The white muzzle is raised and centered.
- The pink nose and black facial embroidery are neat.
- The overalls are blue with yellow and green meadow accents.
- The straps have buttons at the front bib.
- The pouch sits across the front of the overalls.
- The sandals have tan soles, blue fronts, green ankle straps, and buttons.
- The hat, watering can, and mushroom are completed as matching garden accessories.
- All yarn ends are woven in securely.
Detailed Cleaning and Preservation Guidelines
To preserve the shape of the knitted mouse, store it away from direct sunlight and heavy moisture. Keep the hat, watering can, and mushroom in the same storage box so the full set stays together.
- Use a soft lint roller or clean dry cloth to remove dust.
- For stains, dab gently instead of rubbing.
- Do not soak the doll for a long period.
- Let every piece dry completely before storing.
- Store with tissue paper around the ears and hat brim to prevent flattening.
Your Little Mouse in Blue Meadow Overalls is now ready to display. Arrange the mouse on a small shelf, garden-themed tray, or handmade backdrop with the hat, watering can, and mushroom nearby for the complete soft meadow look.
