This cheerful knitted goose wears deep green fox garden overalls, brown sandals, a red cap trimmed with small daisies, and carries the cozy handmade charm of a spring garden doll. The finished scene includes the long-necked goose, oversized cream eyes, tiny golden beak, button straps, fox motifs, leafy stitch details, a knitted acorn cap, and a small basket filled with colorful garden fruit.
Please note: I strive for accuracy in every pattern, but occasional errors can happen. Thank you for understanding and for enjoying my designs.
Pattern Overview
This pattern is worked as a soft knitted art doll using small circular knitting, short shaping sections, sewn seams, duplicate stitch, and simple embroidery. The goose body is shaped with a narrow seated torso, long ribbed neck, dangling legs, rounded wings, wide eyes, and a small triangular beak. The clothes and accessories are made separately, then fitted onto the doll during final assembly.
The overalls are intentionally roomy and slightly puffed at the belly and thighs, matching the sweet handmade look in the image. The foxes are added with duplicate stitch after knitting so newer knitters can avoid complicated stranded colorwork. The daisies on the cap are small knitted petals sewn around embroidered yellow centers.
Finished Size
- Finished seated height: about 12 in / 30.5 cm from sandals to top of cap.
- Head and eye width: about 4 in / 10 cm across the large eye area.
- Neck length: about 3.75 in / 9.5 cm.
- Leg length: about 4 in / 10 cm from overall cuff to sandal.
- Acorn cap: about 3.25 in / 8 cm wide.
- Basket: about 2 in / 5 cm wide, not including handle.
Skill Level
Confident beginner to intermediate. You should be comfortable knitting small tubes in the round, increasing, decreasing, picking up stitches, sewing pieces together, and adding embroidered details. The instructions are written row by row with exact stitch counts to make the shaping easier to follow.
Yarn and Materials
- Main goose color: 70 yd cream or warm ivory DK yarn.
- Overalls: 55 yd deep moss green DK yarn.
- Fox motif orange: 10 yd rusty orange DK yarn.
- Fox motif white: 6 yd white DK yarn.
- Fox motif dark brown: 5 yd dark brown DK yarn.
- Cap: 18 yd red DK yarn.
- Daisies: small amounts white and yellow DK yarn.
- Sandals and basket: 25 yd warm brown DK yarn.

- Fruit pieces: small amounts red, yellow, orange, and green DK yarn.
- Needles: US 3 / 3.25 mm double-pointed needles or long circular needle for magic loop.
- Extra needles: US 2 / 2.75 mm needles for sandal straps and daisy petals.
- Safety eyes: two 9 mm black safety eyes, or black yarn for embroidered eyes.
- Buttons: two small 8 to 10 mm tan buttons for overall straps.
- Stuffing: washable polyester fiberfill.
- Tools: tapestry needle, stitch markers, removable markers, scissors, pins, and row counter.
Gauge
Work a small swatch in stockinette stitch using US 3 / 3.25 mm needles. Aim for 6 stitches and 8 rounds per inch after light stuffing tension. Gauge is important because the eyes, clothes, and accessories are fitted to the doll. A firm gauge also prevents stuffing from showing through the knitted fabric.
If your stitches are loose, go down one needle size. If the fabric feels too stiff to shape smoothly, go up one needle size. For toy knitting, a slightly tight fabric is better than a loose fabric.

- Do not bind off. Continue directly into the neck.
Long Ribbed Neck
The neck in the image is tall, slim, and lightly ribbed. To recreate that look, the neck is worked in a narrow tube with a subtle knit and purl texture. Stuff the neck firmly enough that it stands upright, but keep it soft enough to bend slightly.
- Rnd 31: k2tog around. 10 sts.
- Rnd 32: kfb in every st. 20 sts.
- Rnds 33 to 58: k1, p1, repeat around for 26 rounds.
- Rnd 59: knit all sts.
- Rnd 60: k4, kfb, repeat around. 24 sts.
- Rnd 61: knit all sts.
- Place a removable marker at the front center of the neck. This helps position the beak and eyes later.
Head Base
The goose head is mostly hidden behind the large eyes, but it needs a stable rounded top so the red cap and beak sit correctly. Keep the shaping smooth and centered over the neck.
- Rnd 62: k3, kfb, repeat around. 30 sts.
- Rnd 63: knit all sts.
- Rnd 64: k4, kfb, repeat around. 36 sts.

- Rnd 72: knit all sts.
- Rnd 73: k3, k2tog, repeat around. 24 sts.
- Rnd 74: k2, k2tog, repeat around. 18 sts.
- Pause and stuff the body, neck, and head. Add small pieces of stuffing into the head first, then the neck, then the body.
- Rnd 75: k1, k2tog, repeat around. 12 sts.
- Rnd 76: k2tog around. 6 sts.
- Cut yarn, thread through remaining sts, pull closed, and weave in securely.
Large Round Eyes
The eyes are the most important feature of this goose. They are oversized cream ovals placed side by side on the front of the head. Each eye should bulge forward like a soft knitted dome. The black eye is placed slightly toward the lower outer side of each oval for a playful expression.
Make 2 Eye Ovals
- Using cream yarn, CO 6 sts and join in the round.
- Rnd 1: kfb in every st. 12 sts.
- Rnd 2: knit all sts.
- Rnd 3: k1, kfb, repeat around. 18 sts.
- Rnd 4: knit all sts.
- Rnd 5: k2, kfb, repeat around. 24 sts.
- Rnds 6 to 10: knit all sts for 5 rounds.
- Rnd 11: k2, k2tog, repeat around. 18 sts.
- Insert one 9 mm safety eye between Rnds 6 and 7. For the left eye, place it slightly left of center. For the right eye, place it slightly right of center.
- Stuff each eye firmly so it becomes a rounded oval.
- Rnd 12: k1, k2tog, repeat around. 12 sts.
- Rnd 13: k2tog around. 6 sts.
- Cut yarn, draw through remaining sts, and close.
Pin both eyes onto the front of the head so they touch at the center. The lower edge of each eye should sit just above the beak position. Sew around each eye with small firm stitches, catching the head fabric but not flattening the dome.
Golden Beak
The beak is a small golden triangle tucked between the large eyes. It points slightly downward and should remain short, not long like a duck bill.

- Cut yarn and pull through final st.
- Fold the triangle lightly at the center line and sew it under the eyes. Add one small horizontal stitch at the top to create a tiny beak ridge.
Wings
The wings look like soft cream arms hanging beside the overalls. They are rounded at the lower end and slightly tapered near the shoulder. Make two identical pieces.
- Using cream yarn, CO 8 sts and join in the round.
- Rnd 1: kfb in every st. 16 sts.
- Rnds 2 to 5: knit all sts.
- Rnd 6: k7, kfb, k7, kfb. 18 sts.

- Rnd 26: k2tog around. 6 sts.
- Cut yarn, draw through sts, and close.
Sew the wings to the upper sides of the body at Rnd 23 of the body, angled downward. The top of each wing should sit partly under the overall straps after dressing.
Legs
The legs are long and slim, matching the cream knitted tubes visible below the overalls. Make two.
- Using cream yarn, CO 14 sts and join in the round.
- Rnds 1 to 28: k1, p1, repeat around for 28 rounds.
- Rnd 29: knit all sts.
- Rnd 30: kfb, k12, kfb. 16 sts.
- Rnds 31 to 34: knit all sts.
- Do not bind off. Continue directly into the foot.
Feet

- Rnd 35: k4, kfb, k8, kfb, k2. 18 sts.
- Rnds 36 to 40: knit all sts.
- Rnd 41: k4, ssk, k6, k2tog, k4. 16 sts.

- Rnd 44: k1, k2tog, repeat to last 2 sts, k2. 10 sts.
- Rnd 45: k2tog around. 5 sts.
- Cut yarn, draw through remaining sts, and close.
Sew the legs to the lower front of the body, spaced about 1 in / 2.5 cm apart. Let them hang straight down so the goose can sit on a shelf or table edge like the image.
Green Fox Garden Overalls
The overalls are knitted separately and dressed onto the goose before the straps are sewn in place. They have wide cropped legs, a rounded belly area, a front bib, shoulder straps, small buttons, and orange fox faces across the legs and bib. The fit should be loose enough to look cozy but not so loose that the doll disappears inside the fabric.
Left Overall Leg

Place the fruit inside the basket and tack them down with matching yarn. This keeps the basket neat if the doll is moved or displayed.
Optional Fox Motif Placement Guide
For the closest look to the photo, use four clear fox faces and three tiny branch accents. Keep the motifs slightly imperfect and handmade. The image has a charming folk-garden style, so the foxes do not need to be perfectly identical.
- Upper bib: one fox centered, with the ears reaching toward the button area.
- Lower belly: one fox slightly lower and wider, placed over the rounded front.
- Left leg: one fox near the outer front thigh.
- Right leg: one fox near the outer front thigh.
- Brown branches: one between the bib and belly fox, one near each pant leg cuff.
Final Assembly and Facial Detailing
- Dress the goose in the overalls before attaching the straps permanently. The legs should come through the pant openings with the cuffs resting just above the cream leg tubes.
- Sew the wings to the sides so they hang outside the overalls and angle gently toward the knees.
- Place the eye ovals close together and sew them firmly around the edges. Do not over-tighten, or the eyes will lose their rounded shape.
- Sew the beak directly under the meeting point of the eyes. Add one tiny stitch at each side to keep the triangle tucked in place.
- Attach the red cap behind the eyes and sew the daisy crown along the cap edge.
- Sew the sandals around the feet and add the red side dots last.
- Place the acorn cap on one side and the basket on the other for the full garden display.
Care Notes
- Spot clean with cool water and mild soap.
- Do not machine wash if you used buttons, safety eyes, or delicate embroidery.
- Let the doll air dry flat on a towel.
- Gently reshape the eyes, neck, and overalls while damp.
- Keep away from pets and children under 3 if small buttons or safety eyes are used.
Quick Checklist Before You Finish
- The neck stands upright and is evenly stuffed.
- The two eyes are the same size and touch at the center.
- The beak is centered under the eyes.
- The green overalls sit loosely with visible fox motifs.
- The buttons are firmly sewn to the strap ends.
- The sandals show cream toes at the front.
- The red cap sits behind the eyes and carries five daisies.
- The basket and acorn cap are shaped, filled, and ready for display.
Detailed Cleaning and Preservation Guidelines
To preserve the shape of this knitted goose, clean only the areas that need attention. Use a damp white cloth and gently press the surface instead of rubbing. Rubbing can fuzz the yarn, loosen duplicate stitch, and flatten the daisy petals.
Store the finished doll in a dry place away from direct sunlight. If the goose will be packed away, wrap it loosely in acid-free tissue or a soft cotton cloth. Do not compress the eyes, cap, or basket handle for long periods, because stuffed knitted pieces can hold dents.
If the overalls become wrinkled, smooth them by hand and lightly steam from a distance. Do not press the iron onto the knitted fabric. Steam gently, reshape with your fingers, and allow the doll to dry completely before displaying again.
