This cozy knitted schnauzer is designed with a rounded gray head, floppy ears, white brows, a full schnauzer beard, a blue striped garden cardigan, brown Mary Jane shoes, a tiny crossbody bag with a bone, a matching striped hat, and small autumn garden pieces like a pumpkin and acorn. The finished doll has a soft seated look, detailed facial texture, and sweet floral accents.
Please note: I strive for accuracy in every pattern, but occasional errors can happen. Thank you for understanding and for enjoying my designs.
Finished Size
- Finished seated height: about 11.5 in / 29 cm from seat to top of head.
- Full length: about 15 in / 38 cm from top of head to sole when legs are stretched.
- Head width: about 5 in / 12.5 cm across the cheeks.

Skill Level
This pattern is written for an adventurous beginner to intermediate knitter. The schnauzer body uses simple shaping, stockinette stitch, increases, decreases, short seams, and embroidery. The cardigan, shoes, bag, flowers, pumpkin, and acorn are small but detailed pieces, so work slowly and check your stitch counts often.

Construction Notes
The schnauzer is knitted mostly in the round. The head and body are worked separately, stuffed firmly, and sewn together. Legs and arms are knitted as tubes, with white paws and gray limbs. The cardigan is knitted flat and wrapped around the body, then decorated with stripes, buttons, flower embroidery, and textured garden stitches.
The ears are knitted flat and folded forward to create the soft floppy schnauzer shape. The muzzle and beard are built with knitted pieces plus long strands of yarn, giving the face the shaggy texture shown in the photo.

Use Yarn A gray for the inner body. The cardigan will cover most of this piece, but a stable body makes the doll sit naturally.

- Sew arms at the shoulder area, just under the cardigan sleeves.

- Arrange the crossbody strap from one shoulder to the opposite hip.
- Sew the bag lightly to the cardigan so it stays in place.
- Place the shoes over the white socks and sew around the ankle edges.
- Attach the ears after the head is sewn on, so you can balance the floppy angle.
Facial Shaping
To make the schnauzer expression deeper, thread gray yarn from the back of the head to the inner corner of one eye. Pull gently, then pass to the second eye and back again. Tie securely at the back of the head. This creates a slight eye indentation without changing the soft knitted look.
Do the same under the muzzle if needed. A small amount of shaping makes the beard and nose look more raised, matching the rounded face in the photo.
Optional Cardigan Texture
The photo shows a handmade cardigan with little textured areas. Add these details after the cardigan is sewn.
- Center cream zigzag: duplicate stitch a small V pattern across the cream stripe.
- Green leaf band: embroider 4 short green leaves on the lower blue section.
- Button detail: use three tan buttons, each about 0.4 in / 1 cm wide.
- Garden flowers: keep flowers tiny and clustered near the lower front edge.
- Stripe order: blue base, green stripe, cream stripe, blue stripe, green accent, cream accent, blue top.
Proportions to Check While Working
- The head should be larger than the body, about 1.15 times the body width.
- The ears should reach down to about eye level when folded.
- The beard should cover the lower third of the face.
- The cardigan should end at the widest part of the belly.
- The bag should sit over the lower front cardigan, not too low on the legs.
- The shoes should look rounded and slightly oversized for a cute toy finish.
- The hat should be wide enough to echo the cardigan stripes and sit naturally beside the doll.
Final Assembly and Facial Detailing
After all pieces are sewn, spend a few minutes adjusting the face. Trim the beard into a soft rounded point, shape the brows outward, and check that the eyes are even. Add one or two extra white yarn strands to the beard if the muzzle looks too narrow.
Sew the head flowers firmly between the ears. Add the black mouth line last so it stays centered under the nose. Place the cardigan, bag, shoes, hat, pumpkin, and acorn together before the final photos, making sure every accessory is visible.
Care Notes
- Spot clean gently with cool water and mild soap.
- Do not machine wash if safety eyes, buttons, or small accessories are attached.
- Let the doll air dry flat on a towel.
- Keep away from pets and very young children if small buttons are used.
Quick Checklist Before You Finish
- Head is firmly stuffed and securely sewn to body.
- Eyes, nose, and buttons are attached tightly.
- Brows are trimmed evenly but still fluffy.
- Beard is full, white, and shaped into a rounded point.
- Cardigan stripes are visible across the front and sleeves.
- Bag strap crosses the chest diagonally.
- Shoes show the white sock opening and tiny flower accent.
- Hat has matching stripes, pom-pom, and floral embroidery.
- Pumpkin and acorn are finished as small table accessories.
Detailed Cleaning and Preservation Guidelines
Store the schnauzer in a dry place away from strong sunlight. To remove dust, use a soft brush and stroke in the direction of the knitted stitches. Avoid pulling the beard or eyebrow strands too hard, because their fluffy texture is part of the design.
If the doll becomes flattened, reshape it gently by hand. Add a small amount of fresh stuffing only if a seam can be opened safely. For long-term display, keep the hat, pumpkin, and acorn beside the doll so the full garden-cardigan scene stays complete.
