Crochet Tutorial: Beehive Honey Bakery Garden – Free Crochet Pattern.

This cheerful crochet scene features a rounded green garden base with a white picket fence, blooming daisies, lavender stems, flying bees, a large beehive bakery with a tiny door, windows, honeycomb decorations, glowing lanterns, a “Honey Bakery” sign, a smaller honey oven hive, a pastry shelf, stepping stones, and a little bakery cart filled with bread, honey jars, and flower cookies.

Please note: I strive for accuracy in every pattern, but occasional errors can happen. Thank you for understanding and for enjoying my designs.

Pattern Overview

This pattern is written in US crochet terms and is designed as a detailed amigurumi-style display piece. The finished project is a miniature honey bakery garden, built on a thick rectangular base with rounded corners. The large beehive bakery is the main focal point, while the small hive oven, bees, flowers, fence, cart, shelf, stones, and bakery treats create the busy garden scene.

The pieces are worked mostly in continuous rounds unless stated otherwise. Use a stitch marker at the beginning of every round. The shapes in this design rely on firm stuffing, tight stitches, and careful assembly, so keep your tension consistent throughout the project.

Finished Size

  • Garden base: about 10 in wide, 8 in deep, and 1.25 in tall.
  • Main beehive bakery: about 5.5 in tall and 4.25 in wide.
  • Small hive oven: about 2.75 in tall and 2.25 in wide.
  • Bees: about 1.5 in long, not including wire stems.
  • Fence height: about 1 in.
  • Finished display height with bees: about 8 in.

Skill Level

Intermediate. A confident beginner can make this project by working slowly and checking stitch counts. The main skills are single crochet in the round, increases, decreases, oval shaping, flat appliques, basic embroidery, and sewing small crochet pieces together.

Materials

  • Worsted weight cotton or cotton blend yarn in grass green, golden yellow, honey yellow, cream, white, brown, dark brown, tan, gray, light gray, black, pink, purple, lavender, leaf green, orange, red, and mustard.
  • 3.0 mm crochet hook for most pieces.
  • 2.5 mm crochet hook for flowers, honeycomb circles, bee wings, sign details, and tiny pastries.
  • Polyester fiberfill.
  • Cardboard or plastic canvas for the base and shelf support.
  • 6 mm black safety eyes for bees, or black embroidery thread.
  • Floral wire or craft wire for flying bees and lavender stems.
  • Tapestry needle.
  • Stitch markers.
  • Scissors.
  • Fabric glue, optional, for securing very tiny details.
  • Black embroidery thread for the “Honey Bakery” sign.
  • Small amount of blush pink yarn or felt for bee cheeks.

Gauge

Gauge is not critical, but tight stitches are important. With worsted weight yarn and a 3.0 mm hook, 6 sc and 7 rounds should measure about 1 inch. If your stitches show stuffing, go down a hook size.

Abbreviations

  • MR = magic ring
  • ch = chain
  • sl st = slip stitch
  • sc = single crochet
  • hdc = half double crochet
  • dc = double crochet
  • tr = treble crochet
  • inc = 2 sc in the same stitch
  • dec = invisible single crochet decrease
  • BLO = back loops only
  • FLO = front loops only
  • FO = fasten off
  • st = stitch
  • sts = stitches
  • R = round or row
  • rep = repeat

Important Construction Notes

The scene is built in layers. First crochet the green garden base, then make the main beehive bakery and small hive oven. After those large shapes are sewn down, add the door, windows, sign, honeycomb circles, vines, lanterns, bakery furniture, cart, flowers, fence, stepping stones, and bees.

For the cleanest result, sew all pieces with matching yarn and small hidden stitches. When attaching objects to the garden base, pass the needle through the top layer of the base only. This keeps the underside neat and helps the display sit flat.

  1. For each short stem, ch 8 to 12 and sl st back along the chain.
  2. For leaves, ch 5, sc, hdc, hdc, sc along the chain, then FO.
  3. Sew stems first, then flowers on top, then add leaves around the base.

Place yellow daisies along the front left and front right corners, white daisies near the cart, and mixed flowers behind the small hive oven.

Part 17: Lavender Stems

The purple lavender stems rise behind the hives and near the right bee. They add vertical texture to the garden.

Lavender Stem

Make 5 to 7 stems.

  1. Cut a 4 inch piece of wire.
  2. With green yarn, ch 16 around the wire by crocheting over it, or wrap the wire tightly with green yarn.
  3. At the top, switch to purple yarn.
  4. Work 6 small clusters down the top half of the stem: ch 2, sl st around the stem, ch 2, sl st around the stem.
  5. FO and secure the end.

Insert lavender stems behind the small hive and on the right side near the cart. Stitch them to the base so they stand upright.

Part 18: White Picket Fence

The fence wraps around the edge of the base, leaving openings near the front center and around the display objects. It has short vertical posts and two horizontal rails.

Fence Rail Sections

Use cream yarn and a 2.5 mm hook. Make sections to fit the base edges.

  1. Ch 28 for a long rail section.
  2. R1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and across. 27 sts.
  3. FO.
  4. Make a second matching rail for the same section.

Make two long sections for the back and two medium sections for the sides. For the front, make two short rail sections of ch 16 each, leaving a center opening for the stone path.

Fence Posts

Make 22 to 26 posts.

  1. Ch 7.
  2. R1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc 5. Ch 1, turn. 6 sts.
  3. R2: Sc across. Ch 1, turn. 6 sts.
  4. R3: Dec, sc 2, dec. 4 sts.
  5. FO, leaving a tail.

Fence Assembly

  • Lay one rail near the bottom of the posts and one rail near the middle.
  • Sew the posts to the rails with cream yarn.
  • Attach the finished fence sections around the green base edge.
  • Curve the fence gently around the rounded corners.
  • Leave the front center open so the stepping stones can lead to the hive door.

Part 19: Tiny Lamp Post Brackets

The image includes small brown bracket-like details near the lanterns. These add a cozy bakery look.

  1. With dark brown yarn, ch 7.
  2. Starting in 2nd ch from hook, sl st 6. FO.
  3. Make 2 short chains.
  4. Sew one chain above each lantern, curving it like a hook.

Part 20: Main Scene Placement

Before sewing everything permanently, place all pieces on the base. The large hive should sit slightly toward the back right. The small hive oven sits on the back left. The shelf is in the front left area, the cart is in the front right, and the stepping stones curve through the center.

  1. Pin the large hive bakery to the back right of the green base.
  2. Pin the small hive oven to the back left, leaving room for flowers behind it.
  3. Place the shelf at the front left, angled slightly toward the center.
  4. Place the cart at the front right, angled slightly toward the viewer.
  5. Arrange the stepping stones from the front center toward the main door.
  6. Arrange flowers around the fence and hives.
  7. Position the bees on wire stems at different heights.
  8. When the layout looks balanced, sew each item securely to the base.

Part 21: Extra Decorative Details

Small details make the honey bakery feel complete. Add them after the large pieces are attached so they do not get crushed during sewing.

  • Add two or three tiny golden honey drops near the door by stitching short vertical lines with amber yarn.
  • Add tan stitch lines to bread loaves to imitate scoring.
  • Add white highlights to honey jars with one small vertical stitch.
  • Add a few green leaves around the shelf and cart.
  • Add tiny yellow flowers near the main door and along the fence.
  • Add a small flower cookie inside the cart so it is visible from the front.
  • Add a few short cream stitches on the fence corners to make the posts look rounded.

Final Assembly and Facial Detailing

Sew the main hive and small hive firmly to the base first. Then attach the door, windows, sign, honeycomb circles, vine, leaves, and lanterns. Sew the shelf and cart next, then add the bread, jars, cookies, stones, flowers, lavender, and fence.

For the bees, make sure the eyes sit evenly on the yellow face area. Add pink cheeks just below the eyes and a tiny black smile. Bend the wire stems slightly so the bees hover naturally above the bakery garden.

Care Notes

This crochet bakery garden is a display item, not a toy for small children because it contains wires, tiny sewn pieces, and optional safety eyes. Keep it away from moisture, direct sunlight, and rough handling. If the base becomes slightly misshapen, gently reshape it by hand.

Quick Checklist Before You Finish

  • The green base is flat and stable.
  • The large hive is centered toward the back right.
  • The small hive oven is attached on the back left.
  • The door, sign, windows, and honeycomb circles are sewn securely.
  • The cart and shelf are filled with visible bakery treats.
  • The stepping stones curve from the front opening toward the door.
  • The white fence wraps the garden edges with a front opening.
  • The bees are balanced at different heights.
  • Flowers and lavender fill the empty garden spaces.

Detailed Cleaning and Preservation Guidelines

Dust the finished piece with a soft makeup brush or a clean dry paintbrush. Do not machine wash this project. If a small area needs cleaning, dab gently with a barely damp cloth and let it air dry completely.

Store the crochet garden in a clear display box or on a shelf away from pets and heavy objects. To preserve the bee wires, avoid bending them repeatedly. To protect the flower petals, do not stack anything on top of the scene.

If any small decoration loosens over time, reattach it with matching yarn and a tapestry needle. For very tiny pieces, a small amount of fabric glue may be used, but sewing will give the most durable result.
