  8. Sew one strap across each bootie opening and attach a tiny button to the opposite side.

Seaming and Blocking

  • Block all pieces gently before final assembly. Use cool water, a towel, and flat drying.
  • Do not stretch ribbing aggressively. The cuffs, neckband, and straps should stay springy.
  • Sew cardigan side seams and sleeve seams using mattress stitch.
  • Sew overall inner legs, crotch, and side seams securely, using small stitches because baby garments receive frequent movement.
  • Sew bootie backs and sole edges neatly so no bulky seam presses against the baby’s foot.

Final Assembly and Facial Detailing

Sew the cardigan buttons opposite the buttonholes, making sure the fronts overlap smoothly. Attach the overall straps to the back waist, cross them if desired, and button them to the bib corners.

For the koala face, keep the expression simple. Two French-knot eyes, a satin-stitch oval nose, and a tiny smiling mouth are enough to match the soft handmade look in the image.

  • Check that the koala is centered on the cream panel.
  • Check that the flower pots sit just above the cardigan ribbing.
  • Check that the pocket embroidery does not make the pocket stiff.
  • Secure all embroidery ends on the wrong side with tiny woven-in tails.

Care Notes

Hand wash the finished outfit in cool water with a mild wool-safe soap. Press out water gently in a towel and dry flat. Avoid wringing, twisting, or hanging the garments while wet.

  • Button the cardigan before washing to help it keep shape.
  • Turn overalls inside out to protect pocket embroidery.
  • Reshape the hat brim while damp.
  • Dry booties with the openings shaped round.

Quick Checklist Before You Finish

  • Cardigan: six buttons attached, cream front band flat, neckband soft, sleeves even.
  • Embroidery: koala face clear, watering can visible, tulips balanced, flower pots aligned.
  • Overalls: straps equal length, pocket centered, bib top straight, cuffs even.
  • Hat: crown smooth, brim wavy, no tight bind-off edge.
  • Booties: soles match, straps button securely, inside seams smooth.

Detailed Cleaning and Preservation Guidelines

For long-term storage, wash and dry the set completely first. Store it folded in breathable cotton fabric or tissue paper. Keep it away from direct sunlight, strong fragrance, and damp areas.

If the embroidery becomes flattened, place the garment on a towel and gently lift the stitches with the blunt tip of a tapestry needle. Do not pull the threads upward too firmly.

  • Use cool water only.
  • Never bleach the cream sections.
  • Do not iron directly over embroidery.
  • Store buttons closed but not tightly stretched.
  • Refresh the hat brim by reshaping it with damp fingers and letting it dry flat.
