Aster Twilight Bookclub Bunny – Knitting

Aster Twilight Bookclub Bunny – Knitting

This cozy bookclub bunny is dressed for crisp afternoons and quiet reading time. You’ll knit a soft floppy-eared bunny, a constellation-inspired dress, a tailored little cardigan with tiny aster flowers, and a classic newsboy cap. The set also includes lace-up shoes, a tote bag, a mini “Aster Twilight” book, and a petite aster bouquet for extra charm.

If you love shopping for the perfect DK yarn set, tiny doll buttons, polyfill stuffing, and a sturdy tapestry needle, this project is a satisfying way to use those notions. The pieces are small, portable, and ideal for knitters who enjoy details.

Please note: I strive for accuracy in every pattern, but occasional errors can happen. Thank you for understanding and for enjoying my designs.

Finished Size and Fit

Main bunny stands about 9–10 in (23–25 cm) from feet to top of head (not counting cap). Owl companion stands about 4–4.5 in (10–11.5 cm). Size changes with yarn, needle size, and your gauge. Aim for a firm fabric that hides stuffing.

Materials

  • Yarn (DK / light worsted) in these colors (amounts are small):
  • Sand/Beige (bunny body)
  • Cream (dress base)
  • Navy (cardigan, book cover, owl jacket)
  • Slate Grey (caps)
  • Chocolate Brown (shoes, tote bag, owl feet)
  • Medium Grey + Oatmeal (owl body shading, optional)
  • Lavender/Purple + Light Purple (asters)
  • Leaf Green (flower stems, optional)
  • Needles: US 1–2 (2.25–2.75 mm) DPNs or magic loop for small circumferences; US 2–3 (2.75–3.25 mm) for flat pieces if you prefer.
  • Notions: polyfill stuffing, stitch markers, row counter, tapestry needle, scissors.
  • Eyes: 6 mm black safety eyes (bunny) OR black yarn for stitched eyes.
  • Owl eyes: 6–7 mm safety eyes or embroidered eyes + yellow yarn for beak.
  • Buttons: 6–8 mm (bunny cardigan: 1; owl jacket: 2).
  • Optional: thin cardboard for book pages, pipe cleaner for bouquet stems, fabric glue.

Gauge

Exact gauge is not critical, but fabric must be tight. As a guide, with DK yarn and US 2 (2.75 mm) needles in stockinette, aim for about 28–32 sts and 38–44 rnds per 4 in (10 cm). If stuffing shows, go down a needle size.

Construction Overview

The bunny is knit mostly in the round from the bottom up: legs, body, and head are worked as one piece for a smooth silhouette. Arms and ears are knit separately and sewn on. Clothing and accessories are knit separately to match the photo: cream dress with navy constellation band, navy cardigan with lavender asters, slate newsboy cap, brown shoes with laces, tote bag, mini book, bouquet, and an owl friend.

Bunny Legs and Body (One Piece)

Use Sand/Beige yarn. Work in stockinette in the round. Stuff firmly as you go, especially through the legs and hips. Place a marker for the beginning of round and move it up each time. The legs are knit separately first, then joined into one body.

Leg 1

  • CO 18 sts. Join in the round, being careful not to twist.
  • Rnds 1–3: k all sts.
  • Rnd 4: (k2, inc) repeat 6 times = 24 sts.
  • Rnds 5–14: k all sts.
  • Rnd 15: (k2tog, k2) repeat 6 times = 18 sts.
  • Rnds 16–20: k all sts. Lightly stuff the foot and lower leg.

Leg 2

Work the same as Leg 1, but do not cut yarn at the end. You will join legs next.

Join Legs and Knit Body

  • With Leg 2 on needles and yarn attached, knit across Leg 2 sts.
  • CO 4 sts (crotch bridge), then knit across all sts of Leg 1.
  • CO 4 sts again (second bridge) and continue to beginning marker.
  • Total sts: 18 + 18 + 8 = 44 sts.
  • Rnds 1–6: k all sts.
  • Rnd 7: (k9, inc) repeat 4 times = 48 sts.
  • Rnds 8–16: k all sts.
  • Rnd 17: (k10, inc) repeat 4 times = 52 sts.
  • Rnds 18–26: k all sts.

At this point your bunny has the long, straight torso seen in the photo. Keep stuffing the body firmly, shaping a gentle oval. Avoid overstuffing the belly so the dress can sit smoothly later.

Shape Shoulders

  • Rnd 27: (k11, k2tog) repeat 4 times = 48 sts.
  • Rnds 28–30: k all sts.
  • Rnd 31: (k10, k2tog) repeat 4 times = 44 sts.
  • Rnds 32–34: k all sts.

Head (Continue from Body)

The head in the photo is softly rounded with a slightly forward muzzle line. We’ll increase to build cheeks, then decrease at the crown. Keep stuffing as you knit so the head stays smooth. Place eyes later after a few rounds of head height.

Increase for Head

  • Rnd 35: (k10, inc) repeat 4 times = 48 sts.
  • Rnd 36: k all sts.
  • Rnd 37: (k11, inc) repeat 4 times = 52 sts.
  • Rnds 38–43: k all sts.
  • Rnd 44: (k12, inc) repeat 4 times = 56 sts.
  • Rnds 45–50: k all sts.

Eye placement (bunny): Place eyes between Rnds 46–47, about 9–10 sts apart, centered on the face. For a gentle expression like the photo, position them slightly low on the head rather than high. If using safety eyes, insert now before closing.

Shape Crown

  • Rnd 51: (k12, k2tog) repeat 4 times = 52 sts.
  • Rnd 52: k all sts.
  • Rnd 53: (k11, k2tog) repeat 4 times = 48 sts.
  • Rnd 54: k all sts.
  • Rnd 55: (k10, k2tog) repeat 4 times = 44 sts.
  • Rnd 56: (k9, k2tog) repeat 4 times = 40 sts.
  • Rnd 57: (k8, k2tog) repeat 4 times = 36 sts.
  • Rnd 58: (k7, k2tog) repeat 4 times = 32 sts.
  • Rnd 59: (k6, k2tog) repeat 4 times = 28 sts.
  • Rnd 60: (k5, k2tog) repeat 4 times = 24 sts.
  • Rnd 61: (k4, k2tog) repeat 4 times = 20 sts.
  • Rnd 62: (k3, k2tog) repeat 4 times = 16 sts.
  • Rnd 63: (k2, k2tog) repeat 4 times = 12 sts.

Stuff the head firmly, shaping cheeks and smoothing any lumps. Cut yarn leaving a long tail. Thread tail through remaining sts, pull tight to close, and weave in securely.

Arms (Make 2)

The arms are slim and hang straight, matching the photo. Knit in the round for a seamless look. Leave a long tail for sewing. Lightly stuff the lower part only so the arms remain soft under the cardigan sleeves.

  • With Sand/Beige, CO 14 sts. Join in the round.
  • Rnds 1–3: k all sts.
  • Rnd 4: (k1, inc) repeat 7 times = 21 sts.
  • Rnds 5–7: k all sts.
  • Rnd 8: (k1, k2tog) repeat 7 times = 14 sts.
  • Rnds 9–20: k all sts.
  • BO knitwise. Leave long tail.

Ears (Make 2)

The ears are long and floppy, reaching past the cardigan hem in the photo. Knit flat to keep them thin and drapey, then seam. Keep stuffing out of the ear tips so they fold naturally.

  • With Sand/Beige, CO 18 sts.
  • Row 1 (RS): k all.
  • Row 2 (WS): p all.
  • Repeat Rows 1–2 for 26 rows total.
  • Shape the ear tip:
  • Row 27 (RS): k2tog, k14, k2tog = 16 sts.
  • Row 28 (WS): p all.
  • Row 29 (RS): k2tog, k12, k2tog = 14 sts.
  • Row 30 (WS): p all.
  • Row 31 (RS): k2tog, k10, k2tog = 12 sts.
  • Row 32 (WS): p all.
  • Row 33 (RS): k2tog, k8, k2tog = 10 sts.
  • Row 34 (WS): p all.
  • Row 35 (RS): k2tog, k6, k2tog = 8 sts.
  • Row 36 (WS): p all.
  • Row 37 (RS): k2tog, k4, k2tog = 6 sts.
  • Row 38 (WS): p all.
  • Row 39 (RS): k2tog, k2, k2tog = 4 sts.
  • Row 40 (WS): p all.
  • Row 41 (RS): k2tog, k2tog = 2 sts.
  • Row 42 (WS): p2tog = 1 st.
  • Cut yarn, pull through last st.

📌Thank you for reading the article

Fold ear piece in half lengthwise, RS out. Mattress stitch the long edge to form an ear tube. Turn so seam runs along the back edge. Add a whisper of stuffing at the base only, leaving the rest empty for a natural drape.

Tail

The tail is small and subtle, mostly hidden by the dress. Knit a tiny ball.

  • With Sand/Beige, CO 10 sts. Join in round.
  • Rnd 1: k all.
  • Rnd 2: inc in each st = 20 sts.
  • Rnds 3–4: k all.
  • Rnd 5: (k2tog) repeat 10 times = 10 sts.
  • Stuff lightly, cut yarn, draw through sts, pull tight, weave in.

Facial Embroidery (Bunny)

The face in the photo is minimal: a small stitched nose line and mouth with no heavy shaping. Use embroidery floss or a single strand of dark brown/charcoal yarn. Work slowly so the stitches sit neatly in the knit fabric.

  • Nose/muzzle line: Stitch a short vertical line centered between the eyes, about 4–5 rows long.
  • Mouth: From the bottom of the nose line, stitch a tiny “Y” or split line into two short diagonals.
  • Optional shaping: Add a couple of small anchor stitches at the outer corners of the mouth to suggest cheeks.

Dress (Cream with Navy Constellation Hem)

The dress in the photo has a cream base with navy motifs: a lower band of tiny triangles, a dotted stripe, scattered stars, and dotted constellation arcs. To match the look cleanly, knit the dress in the round, then add motifs using duplicate stitch or small stranded sections.

Dress notes: If you prefer simplicity, knit the dress plain and embroider all motifs afterward in navy yarn. Duplicate stitch is beginner-friendly and keeps the dress flexible. Keep the motifs mostly on the lower half, leaving the top plain under the cardigan.

Dress Skirt (Bottom Up)

  • With Cream, CO 72 sts. Join in round.
  • Rnds 1–2: k all.
  • Rnd 3: (k5, inc) repeat 12 times = 84 sts.
  • Rnds 4–10: k all.
  • Rnd 11: (k6, inc) repeat 12 times = 96 sts.
  • Rnds 12–22: k all.
  • Rnd 23: (k7, inc) repeat 12 times = 108 sts.
  • Rnds 24–34: k all.

This creates the gentle A-line seen in the photo. Lay skirt around the bunny’s waist to check circumference. It should skim the body without pulling. If needed, add one extra increase round (spread evenly) for more flare.

Hem Motif Band (Triangles + Dots)

Work these as duplicate stitch in Navy after knitting, or knit them now with simple stranded rounds. The photo shows a crisp triangular/zigzag feel near the hem and a dotted stripe above it.

  • Triangle band placement: Use Rnds 6–8 of the skirt for tiny triangles/chevrons.
  • Dot stripe placement: Use Rnd 12 as a spaced “dot” round.
  • Suggested dot spacing: Duplicate stitch 1 navy “dot” (1 stitch) every 4–5 stitches around.

Constellation Motifs (Stars + Curved Dashes)

Between Rnds 14–26, add scattered navy stars and dotted arcs. In the photo, the design looks like little starbursts with connecting dotted lines, not dense colorwork. Keep it airy: 6–8 stars around the skirt, varied heights, with a few curved dotted trails.

  • Stars: Make small 5-point starbursts using duplicate stitch (a plus-sign with diagonals), about 3–5 stitches wide.
  • Dotted arcs: Create gentle curves with single-stitch dots, spaced 1 stitch apart, curving between stars.
  • Balance: Concentrate most motifs on the front and sides, leaving the back simpler for a clean seam-free look.

Dress Bodice

The bodice is smooth and simple, mostly hidden by the cardigan. Work straight, then create armholes and a neckline. The dress is worn under the cardigan, so keep the top neat without bulky straps.

  • After Rnd 34, decrease to fit the waist:
  • Rnd 35: (k7, k2tog) repeat 12 times = 96 sts.
  • Rnd 36: k all.
  • Rnd 37: (k6, k2tog) repeat 12 times = 84 sts.
  • Rnds 38–44: k all.

Try the dress on the bunny by sliding it up from the feet. It should sit at the narrowest part of the body. Adjust length if desired by adding or subtracting a few plain rounds before the bodice shaping.

Armhole and Neck Opening (Worked Flat)

Switch to working back-and-forth to form a slit at the back for easier dressing. This also avoids stretching the neckline. From here, treat the beginning-of-round point as the back center.

  • Row 1 (RS): k42, turn, leave remaining sts unworked.
  • Row 2 (WS): p42.
  • Continue working these 42 sts for 10 rows total in stockinette (k on RS, p on WS).
  • BO these 42 sts. Cut yarn.
  • Rejoin yarn to remaining 42 sts and repeat the same 10-row panel. BO.

You now have a back opening. To create a simple neckline, pick up stitches evenly around the top edge (front and back panels). Aim for about 56–64 sts total, depending on your tension.

  • Pick up and knit around neckline.
  • Work 3 rounds of k for a clean collar.
  • BO loosely. Weave in ends.

Cardigan (Navy, with Lavender Asters)

The cardigan in the photo is a short navy jacket with lapels, long sleeves, and a single small button closure. The front panels show delicate lavender aster flowers with tiny green accents. Knit the body flat for easy shaping, then knit sleeves in the round and sew in.

Cardigan Body (Flat)

  • With Navy, CO 56 sts.
  • Row 1 (RS): k all.
  • Row 2 (WS): p all.
  • Repeat Rows 1–2 for 12 rows.

Shape armholes: Bind off a few stitches at each side, then continue straight. Keep the cardigan cropped so it ends above the widest skirt motifs, like the photo.

  • Row 13 (RS): BO 3, k to last 3 sts, BO 3 = 50 sts.
  • Row 14 (WS): p all.
  • Rows 15–26: stockinette (k RS, p WS).

Split for Fronts and Back

Work three sections: left front, back, right front. This lets you create the lapel opening and a gentle V. Mark the center 18 sts as back, with 16 sts on each front.

  • Next RS row: k16 (Right Front), place remaining sts on holder, turn.
  • Work Right Front 12 rows in stockinette.
  • Shape neckline: on RS rows, dec 1 st at neck edge every other row 4 times (use k2tog at neck edge).
  • After shaping, BO shoulder sts (about 12 sts) and cut yarn.

Return to the Back sts (18). Work 12 rows straight in stockinette. BO all back sts. For the Left Front, rejoin yarn to the remaining 16 sts and mirror the Right Front shaping, decreasing at the neck edge using ssk for a clean mirrored line.

Pick Up Front Band and Lapels

The photo shows a neat front edge that reads like lapels. We’ll pick up stitches along the opening and knit a narrow band. Keep it structured, not ruffled.

  • With RS facing, pick up and knit along left front edge, around neckline, and down right front edge.
  • Pick up about 1 st per row along vertical edges, and 1 st per stitch along top edges.
  • Work 4 rows in garter stitch (k every row) for a crisp band.
  • BO loosely. Weave in ends.

Sleeves (Make 2)

Sleeves are slim and reach the wrists. Knit in the round for smooth stockinette. Match the photo by keeping the cuff plain and letting the sleeve sit straight with minimal shaping.

  • With Navy, CO 22 sts. Join in round.
  • Rnds 1–4: k all.
  • Rnd 5: (k10, inc, k11) = 23 sts.
  • Rnds 6–10: k all.
  • Rnd 11: (k11, inc, k11) = 24 sts.
  • Rnds 12–26: k all.
  • BO. Leave long tail for sewing.

Cardigan Embellishment (Aster Flowers)

On each front panel, add small lavender asters like the photo. Place them low on the cardigan fronts, leaving the lapels clear. Use duplicate stitch or simple embroidery. Keep each flower about 4–6 stitches wide.

  • Flower placement: 3 flowers on each side, arranged in a gentle cluster.
  • Flower shape: stitch a small center, then 5–6 petals radiating outward.
  • Green accents: add 1–2 tiny leaf stitches near each flower.
  • Balance: keep the flowers symmetrical left-to-right for the polished look shown.

Button Closure

Sew 1 small button to the cardigan front, slightly above the waist. Add a small yarn loop on the opposite side as a buttonhole, or create a simple horizontal slit in the garter band by skipping 1 stitch on a row and casting it on again next row.

Newsboy Cap (Slate Grey)

The cap is the signature accessory: a rounded crown with a short brim and a subtle gathered look. Knit the crown in the round, then add a firm brim worked flat. Keep the brim slightly curved, like the photo.

Cap Crown

  • With Slate Grey, CO 48 sts. Join in round.
  • Rnds 1–6: k all.
  • Rnd 7: (k7, k2tog) repeat 6 times = 42 sts.
  • Rnds 8–9: k all.
  • Rnd 10: (k6, k2tog) repeat 6 times = 36 sts.
  • Rnds 11–12: k all.
  • Rnd 13: (k5, k2tog) repeat 6 times = 30 sts.
  • Rnd 14: k all.
  • Rnd 15: (k4, k2tog) repeat 6 times = 24 sts.
  • Rnd 16: (k2, k2tog) repeat 6 times = 18 sts.
  • Rnd 17: (k1, k2tog) repeat 6 times = 12 sts.
  • Cut yarn, draw through sts, pull tight, weave in.

Cap Band and Brim

Pick up stitches around the lower edge to form a tidy band. Then knit a brim centered at the front. The brim should be about the width of the bunny’s face and slightly rounded.

  • Pick up 48 sts around cap edge.
  • Work 4 rounds in 1×1 rib: (k1, p1) repeat around.
  • BO loosely. Weave in ends.

Brim: With RS facing, pick up 18 sts at the front center of the cap band. Work flat in garter stitch for firmness.

  • Row 1 (RS): k all.
  • Row 2 (WS): k all.
  • Repeat for 10 rows total.
  • Shape brim tip: Row 11: k2tog, k to last 2 sts, k2tog = 16 sts.
  • Row 12: k all.
  • Row 13: k2tog, k to last 2 sts, k2tog = 14 sts.
  • Row 14: k all, then BO.

Sew brim edges neatly to the cap band so it curves downward slightly. Add a tiny top “button” effect by stitching a few tight wraps at the crown center if you want the gathered look shown.

Shoes (Brown Lace-Ups, Make 2)

The shoes in the photo are chunky, rounded, and tied with laces. We’ll knit a simple slipper boot with a separate lace cord. Keep them firm so the bunny stands well. Stuff the toe lightly for shape, but don’t overfill.

Shoe Body

  • With Chocolate Brown, CO 20 sts. Join in round.
  • Rnds 1–4: k all.
  • Rnd 5: (k4, inc) repeat 4 times = 24 sts.
  • Rnds 6–9: k all.
  • Shape instep: Rnd 10: (k2tog, k4) repeat 4 times = 20 sts.
  • Rnds 11–14: k all.
  • BO. Leave a tail.

To create a flatter sole, lightly steam the shoe and press the bottom gently. Alternatively, stitch a small oval felt sole underneath in matching brown for stability.

Laces

  • With brown yarn, make a 10–12 in (25–30 cm) cord using i-cord (2 sts) or tight crochet chain.
  • Thread through the front of the shoe in a simple crisscross.
  • Tie a small bow. Trim ends, and secure with a tiny stitch so the bow stays neat.

Tote Bag (Grey-Brown)

The tote in the photo is a structured little bag with short handles and tiny navy accents. Knit flat as a rectangle, seam the sides, and add handles. Keep the bag firm so it stands upright beside the bunny.

Bag Body

  • With Grey-Brown, CO 28 sts.
  • Rows 1–22: stockinette (k RS, p WS).
  • Row 23 (RS): k all.
  • Row 24 (WS): p all.

Fold rectangle with RS out so the lower edge becomes the bottom. Mattress stitch the side seams, leaving the top open. To square the bottom, pinch each bottom corner and stitch across 4–5 stitches to form a flat base.

Handles (Make 2)

  • CO 6 sts.
  • Work 18 rows in garter stitch (k every row).
  • BO. Sew one handle to each side of the bag opening.

Add a few tiny navy duplicate-stitch dots on the bag front, matching the subtle accents in the photo. Keep them minimal: 4–6 dots scattered lightly.

Mini Book (“Aster Twilight”)

The book is a key prop in the scene: navy cover, lighter “pages,” and a small bookmark strip with a star. Knit a tiny rectangle, fold, and stitch. You can also insert thin cardboard to keep it crisp.

Book Cover

  • With Navy, CO 18 sts.
  • Work 10 rows in garter stitch.
  • BO.

Pages Insert

  • With Cream, CO 16 sts.
  • Work 8 rows in garter stitch.
  • BO.

Layer the cream piece on top of the navy piece, centered. Fold navy around the cream like a cover and stitch along the spine edge. Embroider the title “Aster Twilight” in cream on the front, and add a tiny star/flower mark near a corner.

Bookmark Tag

  • With Cream or light grey, CO 4 sts.
  • Work 10 rows in garter stitch, BO.
  • Duplicate-stitch a small navy star near the end.
  • Tuck into the book and secure with a tiny stitch if desired.

Aster Bouquet (Purple Flowers)

The bouquet includes several small purple asters with yellow-ish centers suggested by texture. Keep them compact so they sit nicely beside the book. You can knit each flower, then stitch them together at the base with a wrapped yarn stem.

Simple Aster Flower (Make 5–7)

  • With Purple, CO 20 sts. Join in round.
  • Rnd 1: (k1, inc) repeat 10 times = 30 sts.
  • Rnd 2: k all.
  • Rnd 3: (k2tog, k1) repeat 10 times = 20 sts.
  • Cut yarn, draw through sts, pull into a small ruffle-like flower.

Pinch the center and stitch a few tight wraps to create a cupped blossom. If you want the lighter petal variation shown, make a few flowers in Light Purple and mix them into the cluster.

Bundle the Bouquet

  • Gather all flowers together at the base.
  • Wrap with green yarn or brown yarn to form a stem bundle.
  • Secure with several tight stitches so the bouquet holds its shape.

Owl Companion

The owl is small, round, and dressed like the bunny: navy jacket and slate cap. The owl’s face has prominent eyes with darker rings and a yellow beak. The body is cream/oatmeal with a darker grey back, matching the photo’s soft contrast.

Owl Body (Knit in the Round)

  • Start with Cream (belly). CO 18 sts. Join in round.
  • Rnd 1: inc in each st = 36 sts.
  • Rnds 2–6: k all.
  • Rnd 7: (k5, inc) repeat 6 times = 42 sts.
  • Rnds 8–12: k all.

Optional shading: Switch to Medium Grey for the back half only using a simple half-and-half method: on each round, knit 21 sts in cream (front), then 21 sts in grey (back). Carry yarn neatly inside. Continue for 6 rounds.

  • Rnds 13–18: maintain front cream/back grey (optional), or continue cream.
  • Begin decreasing: Rnd 19: (k5, k2tog) repeat 6 times = 36 sts.
  • Rnd 20: k all.
  • Rnd 21: (k4, k2tog) repeat 6 times = 30 sts.
  • Rnd 22: k all.
  • Rnd 23: (k3, k2tog) repeat 6 times = 24 sts.

Insert safety eyes between Rnds 14–15, spacing about 6–7 sts apart on the front. Stuff the owl firmly so it stands. Keep the base flat by pressing it on the table as you finish stuffing.

  • Rnd 24: (k2, k2tog) repeat 6 times = 18 sts.
  • Rnd 25: (k1, k2tog) repeat 6 times = 12 sts.
  • Rnd 26: (k2tog) repeat 6 times = 6 sts.
  • Cut yarn, draw through sts, pull tight, weave in.

Owl Beak

  • With Yellow, embroider a small triangle between the eyes.
  • Make the beak slightly raised with a few layered stitches.

Owl Feet

The owl sits with tiny brown feet peeking out. Make two small ovals and sew to the base front.

  • With Brown, CO 6 sts.
  • Work 4 rows in garter stitch, BO.
  • Pinch ends slightly and sew to owl base.

Owl Jacket (Navy)

The owl jacket mirrors the bunny cardigan: navy, short, with two tiny buttons. Knit flat, then seam around the owl body. Keep it snug so it doesn’t slip. Add a small collar line by picking up stitches at the top edge.

  • With Navy, CO 26 sts.
  • Rows 1–2: garter stitch (k both rows).
  • Rows 3–12: stockinette (k RS, p WS).
  • Row 13: k all.
  • Row 14: p all.
  • BO.

Wrap around the owl, seam at the back. Pick up 26 sts along the top edge and work 2 rows garter, then BO. Sew two tiny buttons on the front and add matching yarn loops as closures.

Owl Cap (Slate Grey)

This is a miniature version of the bunny cap. Keep it shallow so it sits above the owl’s eyes. Add a tiny brim for character, just like the photo.

  • With Slate Grey, CO 30 sts. Join in round.
  • Rnds 1–4: k all.
  • Rnd 5: (k3, k2tog) repeat 6 times = 24 sts.
  • Rnds 6–7: k all.
  • Rnd 8: (k2, k2tog) repeat 6 times = 18 sts.
  • Rnd 9: (k1, k2tog) repeat 6 times = 12 sts.
  • Cut yarn, draw through sts, pull tight, weave in.

Mini brim: Pick up 10 sts at the front edge. Work 6 rows garter stitch flat, then BO. Stitch brim sides down so it curves slightly.

Assembly Order

Use this order to match the final look cleanly and avoid fighting tight clothing over bulky seams. Keep stitches small and invisible. When sewing, aim for symmetry so the cardigan sits straight and the cap brim centers over the face.

  1. Sew ears to the head first.
  2. Sew arms to the body at shoulder line.
  3. Sew tail to lower back.
  4. Add facial embroidery and check expression.
  5. Dress the bunny: slip on dress, then cardigan.
  6. Add shoes and tie laces.
  7. Place and secure cap.
  8. Finish props: tote, book, bookmark, bouquet.
  9. Dress owl: jacket, cap, then place beside bunny.

Sewing the Bunny Parts

Ears: Position ears slightly to the sides of the head, starting near the top third. In the photo, the cap sits over the ear roots, so attach ears a bit higher than you think. Stitch the ear base flat to the head, then add one extra anchoring stitch behind to encourage a gentle forward flop.

Arms: Sew arms to the upper body at the shoulder shaping, about 2–3 rounds below the neck. Keep them pointing down with a soft bend. Make sure both arms are even by counting rounds and checking from the front.

Tail: Attach tail centered on the lower back, just above where the skirt would begin. Use small whip stitches and pull snug. The tail should look like a small bump rather than a large pom.

Dressing the Bunny

Slide the dress up from the feet, easing it over the hips. The back opening should align at the bunny’s spine. If you want it to close, add a tiny snap or sew a small hook-and-loop dot at the neckline, keeping it hidden under the cap and ears.

Put the cardigan on next. Align the hem so it sits above the skirt’s densest motifs, matching the photo. Close the cardigan with the single button loop, leaving the lapels open so the cream dress neckline shows as a soft triangle.

Cap Fit and Placement

The cap should sit low enough to feel cozy, but not cover the eyes. Center the brim directly over the nose line. If the cap shifts, tack it in place with 3–4 tiny stitches: one behind each ear and one at the back center. Keep stitches hidden in the rib band.

Prop Styling (Bookclub Scene)

Place the tote on the bunny’s left side like the photo, with handles upright. Set the book slightly in front of the tote and angle the bookmark outward. Rest the bouquet near the book’s lower edge so the purple flowers pop against the wood-toned background. Position the owl at the bunny’s right foot.

Final Assembly and Facial Detailing

Check that eyes are level and that the nose line is centered. If the face looks too serious, add a tiny extra stitch at the mouth split to soften it. Smooth stuffing by gently massaging the knit fabric. Confirm the cardigan flowers are balanced and the cap brim is centered.

Care Notes

Hand wash gently in cool water with mild soap. Press in a towel to remove moisture, then reshape and air dry flat. Avoid aggressive rubbing on embroidered motifs. If using safety eyes, keep the doll away from very small children. Store props together in a small pouch to prevent loss.

Quick Checklist Before You Finish

  • All ends woven in securely
  • Seams smooth and symmetrical
  • Dress motifs placed mostly on lower half
  • Cardigan button and loop hold snugly
  • Cap brim centered and lightly tacked
  • Shoes stable and laces secured

Detailed Cleaning and Preservation Guidelines

For long-term display, keep the doll out of direct sunlight to reduce fading, especially on navy and lavender yarn. Dust with a soft brush. If storing, wrap in acid-free tissue and keep in a breathable box. Avoid plastic bags in humid climates, and check annually for color transfer between dark and light pieces.
