Pattern Overview

This pattern is written in US crochet terms and is designed as a decorative amigurumi garden display. The finished piece is worked as several separate crochet parts, then assembled into one detailed fairy tea café scene.

The teacup cottage is the main structure. It is crocheted as a sturdy bowl with a cream outer wall, a tan interior, and a soft blue handle. The floral roof is a half-dome canopy covered with leaves and small five-petal flowers.

The two mice are small seated amigurumi figures. Each mouse has a round head, soft ears, slim arms, tiny pink hands, and a beige café apron. One mouse holds a teapot and the other holds a cupcake.

Finished Size

  • Full garden base: about 15 in wide and 12 in deep.
  • Teacup cottage: about 7 in wide, 5 in tall without flowers, and 6 in tall with roof flowers.
  • Each mouse: about 3.25 in tall when seated.
  • Rose arch: about 6 in tall.
  • Tea table: about 2.5 in wide.

Skill Level

Intermediate. A confident beginner can make this project slowly, one section at a time. The pattern uses basic amigurumi shaping, simple flat appliqués, small flowers, and careful sewing.

Materials

  • DK weight cotton yarn in cream, warm beige, white, tan, brown, light blue, sage green, dark green, pink, dusty rose, lavender, purple, yellow, red, gray, and small amounts of black.

  • 3 mm crochet hook for cup, base, roof, table, and chairs.

  • Brown embroidery thread for window panes and chair texture.
  • Yarn needle, stitch markers, sewing pins, scissors.
  • Optional: craft wire for the rose arch and cup handle.

  • ch: chain
  • sl st: slip stitch
  • sc: single crochet

  • BLO: back loop only
  • FLO: front loop only

Gauge and Crochet Notes

Gauge is not critical, but your stitches should be firm enough that stuffing does not show. For the mice and tiny accessories, use a smaller hook than your yarn label suggests.

Work most amigurumi pieces in continuous rounds unless instructed otherwise. Use a stitch marker at the first stitch of each round. Stuff gradually and firmly, but do not overstuff small pieces.

For a neat display piece, block flat appliqués lightly before sewing. The garden base, cup wall, roof, table, and door should be firm. Insert plastic canvas or firm felt where indicated.

Color Placement Guide

  • Teacup body: cream outside, warm beige inside.
  • Handle: pale blue.
  • Door: dark brown with tan trim and small cream sign.
  • Window: tan ring, brown panes, white lace-style curtains.
  • Roof: dark green canopy with sage leaves and pastel flowers.

Cut plastic canvas in a strip about 4.5 in tall and long enough to fit inside the cup wall. Curve it into a ring and sew the ends together. Insert it inside the cup to keep the wall upright.

Inner Cup Lining

Use warm beige yarn and a 3 mm hook. Repeat the outer cup from Rnd 1 through Rnd 23. Do not work the raised rim. FO with a long tail.

Place the beige lining inside the cream cup. Sew the top edge of the lining just under the cream rim. Lightly stuff between the lining and outer wall only if needed for shape.

Teacup Rim Texture

With cream yarn, join at the front rim. Work one round of sc through the unused inner loops of Rnd 25. Then work one round of sl st. This makes the rim thick, rounded, and close to the teacup in the image.

Blue Teacup Handle

The handle is large, curved, and pale blue. For best shape, place craft wire inside, but keep the ends covered securely.

  1. Using light blue yarn, ch 32.
  2. Rnd 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and across. 31 sts.
  3. Rnd 2: Ch 1, turn, sc across. 31 sts.

Bend the handle into a wide C shape. Sew the upper end to the right side of the cup near Rnd 20 and the lower end near Rnd 10. Sew several passes through the cup wall and stabilizer so it sits firmly.

Dark Green Half-Dome Roof Canopy

The roof sits like a curved garden canopy over the back half of the teacup. It is not a full dome. It covers the rear opening and leaves the front open so the mice can be seen.

Use dark green yarn and a 3 mm hook. Work back and forth in rows.

  1. Row 1: Ch 33, sc in 2nd ch from hook and across. 32 sts.
  2. Row 2: Ch 1, turn, sc across. 32 sts.

  12. Row 21: Ch 1, turn, sc across. FO with a long tail.

Cut a matching half-oval from plastic canvas. Sew the crochet roof over it, curving it gently. Attach the straight lower edge to the back rim of the teacup. The roof should lean forward slightly, like a leafy awning.

Final Assembly and Facial Detailing

Check the mice faces before securing them permanently. The eyes should be level, the snouts should point slightly forward, and the ears should sit high and open. Add a few short pink stitches to each cheek for a soft handmade expression.

Sew the heads firmly to the bodies so they do not wobble. Angle the left mouse toward the teapot and the right mouse toward the cupcake. This small pose makes the café scene feel alive.

Add final embroidery to the door, window, sign, teapot, and table. Use tiny stitches only. The charm of this pattern comes from many small details placed carefully, not from large decorations.

Care Notes

  • Keep this project as a decorative display, not a toy for babies.
  • Spot clean only with a slightly damp cloth.
  • Do not soak the piece, because the stabilizers may bend.
  • Keep away from direct sunlight to protect the pastel colors.
  • If flowers flatten, reshape them gently with your fingers.

Quick Checklist Before You Finish

  • Teacup wall stands upright and keeps a round bowl shape.
  • Blue handle is firmly attached at both ends.
  • Roof is covered with leaves and pastel flowers.
  • Both mice are seated and facing forward.
  • Door sign, window panes, and curtains are attached neatly.
  • Outdoor table has cups, macarons, and cookies.
  • Garden base includes stones, mushrooms, lavender, leafy plants, and rose arch.

Detailed Cleaning and Preservation Guidelines

Dust the finished tea café with a soft makeup brush or clean paintbrush. Work from the roof downward so loose dust falls away from flowers, leaves, and tiny table pieces.

For stains, touch only the stained area with cool water and mild soap. Blot gently with a clean towel. Do not rub the mice faces, embroidered sign, or flower centers.

Store the piece in a box with tissue paper around the rose arch and roof. Avoid stacking heavy items on top. If the arch bends, reshape it slowly with both hands until the curve returns.
