Please note: I strive for accuracy in every pattern, but occasional errors can happen. Thank you for understanding and for enjoying my designs.
Pattern Overview
This pattern is written in US English knitting terms and is designed to create a seated mouse doll inspired by the photo. The mouse has a large rounded head, a smaller soft body, short stuffed legs, rounded arms, very large circular ears, and detailed garden clothing.
The finished doll is made mostly in the round for smooth shaping. Smaller decorative pieces are worked flat, then sewn on. The clothing is removable only if you choose not to sew it permanently to the doll.
- Skill level: Adventurous beginner to intermediate.
- Finished doll height: About 10.5 in from sandal sole to top of ear.
- Seated height: About 8.5 in.
- Head width: About 4.25 in across the cheeks.
- Ear diameter: About 2.25 in each.
- Gauge: 7 sts and 10 rnds = 1 in in stockinette, worked firmly.
- Recommended needle: US 2 or US 3 double-pointed needles, or size needed for a tight toy fabric.
Work all pieces firmly so the stuffing does not show through. For the soft plush look in the image, avoid loose gauge. A neat, dense fabric gives the mouse a rounded knitted-doll finish and makes embroidery easier.

Important Construction Notes
The mouse is built as a seated doll. The legs are short and slightly rounded, then attached at the lower front of the body so they hang over a table edge like the reference image. The arms are narrow and soft, sewn down at a gentle angle.
The head is intentionally large compared with the body. The face has a wide cheek area, large eyes, a tiny protruding muzzle, and big circular ears placed high and slightly outward. This gives the gentle garden-mouse expression shown in the photo.
- Stuff the head firmly, especially around the cheeks.
- Stuff the body medium-firm so the doll can sit.
- Stuff the arms and legs lightly near the top for flexible posing.
- Keep all sewing seams neat and hidden on the back or underside.
- When attaching ears, angle each ear outward about 20 degrees from the head.
- When attaching the head, tilt it very slightly forward for a sweet expression.

- Place the crossbody bag diagonally across the chest.
- Arrange the acorn hat, basket, and watering can beside the doll.
Final Assembly and Facial Detailing
After all pieces are attached, check the balance of the doll in a seated position. The head is large, so the lower body and legs should be stitched securely. Add extra hidden stitches between the back of the head and upper body if the head tips backward.
Shape the cheeks with your fingers after stuffing. If the muzzle appears too flat, add one small pinch of stuffing behind it before closing the final seam. The eyes should look round, bright, and slightly oversized.
- Place ears high and wide for the mouse-like silhouette.
- Keep the nose centered between the eyes and just above the muzzle curve.
- Angle the cardigan fronts outward so the striped shirt remains visible.
- Let the bag rest on the mouse’s right hip, with the strap crossing the chest.
Care Notes
Spot clean the doll with cool water and a mild wool-safe soap. Avoid soaking if you used safety eyes, buttons, blush powder, or wire in any accessory. Gently press with a towel and let the doll air dry flat.
- Do not machine wash if the doll contains beads, buttons, or firm decorative pieces.
- Keep away from pets and very young children if small parts are attached.
- Reshape ears, cardigan, and accessories while damp if needed.
Quick Checklist Before You Finish
- Both ears are even, round, and angled outward.
- Eye patches are centered around the black eyes.
- The muzzle is small, rounded, and placed below the eyes.
- Cardigan buttons are secure.
- Shirt stripes show between the open cardigan fronts.
- Green pants sit smoothly over the legs.
- Sandals show pink toes and white daisy details.
- Headband flowers and blue butterfly are secure.
- Bag strap crosses diagonally and the mushroom applique faces forward.
- Acorn hat, basket, and watering can are finished as matching props.
Detailed Cleaning and Preservation Guidelines
Store the mouse doll upright or seated in a dry place away from direct sunlight. Long sunlight exposure may fade the mustard cardigan, green pants, pink ears, and blue butterfly. If storing for a long time, wrap the doll loosely in acid-free tissue.
To refresh the shape, gently steam near the doll without pressing the iron onto the fabric. Use your fingers to round the cheeks, ears, and paws. Let every part dry fully before placing the doll in a display area.
- Use a soft brush to remove dust from the cardigan cables and basket texture.
- Check button and bead attachments regularly.
- Keep the floral headband flat when storing so the butterfly does not bend.
- Do not hang the doll by the bag strap, arms, or ears.
Your cozy garden mouse doll is now complete, with its soft mouse face, oversized ears, layered garden outfit, mushroom bag, floral headband, acorn hat, basket, and watering can ready for a charming handmade display.
