This cheerful crochet scene features a red mitten-shaped Christmas workshop on a green display base, complete with a cream ribbed awning, arched wooden door, golden bells, holly, mistletoe, string lights, stockings, gifts, yarn baskets, trees, snow patches, woodland animals, and tiny craft supplies. The finished piece is a detailed holiday diorama designed as a decorative centerpiece.
Please note: I strive for accuracy in every pattern, but occasional errors can happen. Thank you for understanding and for enjoying my designs.
Skill Level
Intermediate to advanced beginner. This project uses basic amigurumi shaping, flat appliques, textured ribbing, small sewn details, and careful assembly. Most pieces are worked in continuous rounds unless the instructions say to turn.

Gauge and Construction Notes
Use firm tension so the workshop stands upright and the small animals keep their rounded shape. The mitten house is built as a tall red rounded body with a separate thumb sewn on the right side. The cream cuff forms the lower wall, and the cream ribbed awning sits across the front.
The base is a green rectangle with rounded snow patches arranged along the front corners. The main mitten workshop sits slightly back from center. The reindeer, fox, mice, polar bear, baskets, tools, and trees are placed around the front to match the busy craft-workshop layout.
Green Display Base
Main Rectangle
- With green yarn and 3.5 mm hook, ch 46.
- Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and across. Turn. 45 sc.
- Rows 2-34: Ch 1, sc across. Turn. 45 sc.
- Border Rnd 1: Ch 1, work 44 sc along top edge, 3 sc in corner, 32 sc down side, 3 sc in corner, 44 sc along bottom edge, 3 sc in corner, 32 sc up side, 3 sc in corner. Sl st to first sc.
- Border Rnd 2: Ch 1, sc in each st around, placing 3 sc in each corner center st. Sl st to join. FO, leaving a long tail.
Cut plastic canvas slightly smaller than the rectangle. Stitch or glue it underneath another matching green rectangle if you want a thicker base. This helps the mitten workshop stand securely and keeps the snowy front corners flat.
Snow Patches
- Large front-left patch, with white: MR, 6 sc. Rnd 2: inc around. 12 sc. Rnd 3: (sc, inc) around. 18 sc. Rnd 4: (2 sc, inc) around. 24 sc. Flatten slightly and FO.
- Small snow circles, make 6: MR, 6 sc. Rnd 2: inc around. 12 sc. FO.
- Long cloud patch, make 2: Ch 10, 2 sc in 2nd ch, sc 7, 4 sc in last ch, work on other side, sc 7, 2 sc in last ch. Sl st to join. FO.
Arrange the snow patches at the front-left and front-right corners. Overlap circles and ovals so they look like soft, lumpy snow mounds around the pine trees and gray stones.

- Attach the second panel to the open edge of the gusset.
- Stuff firmly but not so tightly that the front panel bulges unevenly.
- Close the bottom edge with whipstitch, leaving the base flat.
The finished body should look like a tall red oven mitt, with a rounded top and a flat lower front. Keep the front face smooth because the awning, door, garland, and decorations will sit on this surface.

- Rows 2-7: Ch 1, sc across. Turn. 30 sc.

Helpful Shaping Tips
Use pins before sewing every major part. The mitten workshop looks best when the door is centered, the awning is straight, and the thumb sits at a clear upward angle. Sew slowly through the red stitches so the decorative pieces do not shift.
For the animals, stuff each head firmly and each body lightly. This keeps the heads rounded and the figures stable. If any figure leans forward, sew the feet directly to the base with several hidden stitches.
The small accessories give this project its workshop feeling. Keep the scissors, baskets, stockings, yarn balls, gift, and sign visible from the front. Arrange them before sewing so the scene feels full but not crowded.
Final Assembly and Facial Detailing
- Check that the mitten body stands upright and does not tilt backward.
- Sew the bottom of the mitten securely to the base using red or green yarn hidden in the stitches.
- Attach all animals with matching yarn through their lower bodies or feet.
- Finish faces last so you can angle the eyes and noses toward the viewer.
- Add final light embroidery, door plank lines, and tiny yarn wraps after all pieces are secured.
Care Notes
- Spot clean only with a slightly damp cloth.
- Do not machine wash because the base, stuffed workshop, and tiny sewn pieces may bend or loosen.
- Keep away from direct heat, candles, and wet surfaces.
- Store upright in a box with tissue paper around the bells, trees, and animals.
Quick Checklist Before You Finish
- Red mitten body is rounded at the top and flat at the base.
- Right thumb is angled upward with a round tan window.
- Cream ribbed awning sits above the arched brown door.
- Holly, mistletoe, berries, and gold bells are attached at the top.
- String lights, stockings, and hanging ornaments decorate the front wall.
- Reindeer, mice, fox, bear, baskets, wagon, yarn, trees, stones, snowflakes, and scissors are all placed on the green base.
Detailed Cleaning and Preservation Guidelines
To preserve the shape, lift the display from underneath the green base instead of pulling the mitten or animals. Dust the piece gently with a soft brush, especially around the bells, holly leaves, yarn baskets, and snowflake appliques.
If a small part becomes loose, reattach it with matching yarn and a yarn needle. Avoid heavy glue on visible areas because it can flatten the crochet texture. Store the workshop in a cool, dry space between holiday seasons.
