Pattern Overview

This pattern is worked as a knitted soft toy with separate pieces sewn together. Most body parts are knitted in the round for a smooth plush finish, while the clothing and accessories are knitted flat or in small rounds. The shape is based on the seated baby husky shown in the photo.

The doll has a large rounded head, short seated body, soft tapered legs, rounded paws, small arms, pointed ears, and a curved fluffy tail. The outfit is layered, with blue pants attached over the lower body and a cream cable sweater with blue trim and striped sleeves over the torso.

  • Skill level: Intermediate beginner to intermediate.
  • Finished size: About 11 in / 28 cm seated, excluding the ears.
  • Main method: Knitting in the round with small needles.
  • Seaming: Mattress stitch and whipstitch.

Important Construction Notes

Keep the knitted fabric firm so the stuffing does not show through. The baby husky should look plush, rounded, and slightly chubby. Stuff each piece gradually instead of pushing all the filling in at the end. This helps the muzzle, cheeks, paws, and seated legs stay smooth.

The photo shows a husky with a cream lower face and brown upper head. The color changes in this pattern use simple stranded sections and duplicate stitch. If you prefer an easier version, knit the head mostly cream and add the brown mask afterward using duplicate stitch.

  • Head shape: Large oval head with fuller cheeks and a tapered muzzle.
  • Body shape: Short seated body hidden partly by sweater and pants.
  • Legs: Long enough to hang over the bench edge, with rounded cream toes.
  • Arms: Short rounded arms with cream paws and striped blue sleeves.
  • Tail: Curved, thick, brown with cream tip.
  • Accessories: Red beret, red scarf, blue satchel, sandals, basket, watering can, yarn balls, acorns, and mushroom detail.

Baby Husky Head

Work the head in the round from the nose area upward. The muzzle is shaped first in cream, then the cheeks widen. Brown is introduced for the upper head and forehead markings. Stuff firmly but keep the face soft and rounded.

Brown Forehead Points

The image shows cream points rising between the eyes with brown framing the face. After knitting the head, use brown duplicate stitch to sharpen the husky mask if needed. Work the markings symmetrically for a clean character look.

  • Above the left eye, duplicate stitch a brown triangle 5 sts wide and 7 rows tall.
  • Above the right eye, repeat the same triangle.
  • Leave a cream V-shaped center between the eyes.
  • Add two small brown cheek points at the outer sides of the cream face, each 4 sts wide and 5 rows tall.

Muzzle Shaping and Facial Details

The muzzle should project softly from the face. If your knitted nose area looks flat, add gentle sculpting with cream yarn. This creates the plush rounded snout visible in the photo.

  1. Thread a long cream yarn tail onto a tapestry needle.
  2. Insert at the bottom center of the head and come out beside the left side of the nose.
  3. Go across the top of the muzzle and enter beside the right side of the nose.
  4. Pull gently to define the bridge of the nose.
  5. Repeat once only. Do not pull too tightly.
  6. Embroider a short vertical line below the nose using dark brown yarn.
  7. Add a tiny smile with two shallow stitches angled downward.
  8. Outline each blue eye with one round of black or dark navy embroidery.
  9. Add a single white highlight stitch on each eye.

Ears

The ears are pointed, upright, and slightly rounded at the base. Each ear has a brown outside and a cream inner panel. Sew them high on the head, angled slightly outward like the photo.

Assembly Order

Assembly is the key to matching the seated pose. Pin all large pieces before sewing. Check that the head tilts slightly upward, the legs hang forward, the arms rest at the sides, and the bag strap crosses the chest cleanly.

  1. Sew the body to the bottom center of the head. The head should sit slightly forward, not straight back.
  2. Sew the ears high on the head, placing them about 10 sts apart at the base.
  3. Sew the legs to the lower front of the body so they point forward.
  4. Sew the arms to the upper sides of the body, just below the shoulder line.
  5. Sew the tail to the back right side of the body, curving upward and outward.
  6. Wrap and sew the blue pants overlays around the legs if not already attached.
  7. Place the cable sweater around the torso and secure with hidden stitches.
  8. Sew the front buttons onto the blue band of the sweater.
  9. Wrap the red scarf around the neck and secure it behind the head.
  10. Place the red beret at a slight angle on the upper head and tack it down.
  11. Place the satchel strap diagonally across the body and sew the bag at the hip.
  12. Sew the sandals to the feet after positioning the legs.
  13. Arrange the basket and watering can as separate props beside the doll.

Final Assembly and Facial Detailing

Check the face from the front before fastening the last threads. The eyes should look bright and round, with the blue color clearly visible. Add a fine black outline around the eyes and one white highlight stitch to create the glossy look seen in the image.

  • Add gentle cheek shaping by pulling one thread from the lower head to the outer side of each eye.
  • Keep the pull light so the face remains soft and baby-like.
  • Brush the brown and cream markings gently with your fingers to smooth the color transitions.
  • Make sure the nose is centered on the muzzle and tilted slightly downward.
  • Secure every accessory with small stitches if the doll will be displayed upright.

Care Notes

This knitted baby husky is best used as a decorative handmade doll. Because it includes buttons and small sewn accessories, it is not suitable for children under three years old. For a child-safe version, embroider all details and omit loose buttons.

  • Spot clean with cool water and mild soap.
  • Do not machine wash if using safety eyes, buttons, or structured accessories.
  • Reshape the beret, scarf, ears, and tail while damp.
  • Allow the doll to dry flat in a shaded place.

Quick Checklist Before You Finish

  • The head is larger than the body and softly rounded.
  • The cream muzzle is centered and slightly raised.
  • The brown husky mask frames both blue eyes evenly.
  • The ears are pointed and angled outward.
  • The cable sweater sits flat on the belly.
  • The striped sleeves show alternating blue and cream bands.
  • The red scarf includes the small mushroom patch.
  • The beret has a tiny stem and flower accent.
  • The blue satchel crosses the body diagonally.
  • The sandals have brown straps and tiny garden embroidery.
  • The watering can and basket are finished as separate bench props.

Detailed Cleaning and Preservation Guidelines

To preserve the shape, avoid squeezing the doll during cleaning. Press a damp cloth gently over dusty areas and lift dirt away instead of rubbing. The cable sweater and scarf have texture, so clean them in the direction of the knitted stitches.

Store the baby husky in a dry place away from direct sunlight. If the beret or ears flatten during storage, reshape them with your fingers and add a small amount of fresh stuffing beneath the area if needed.

  • Use a soft brush to remove dust from the cable sweater and basket.
  • Keep the doll away from high heat, strong sunlight, and damp shelves.
  • Wrap the accessories in tissue paper if storing the doll for a long time.
  • Check buttons, acorns, and the satchel strap occasionally and resew loose pieces.
