Create a soft crochet cottage garden scene with two standing bunnies, a sleeping baby bunny in a hammock, a straw-roof cottage covered in tiny flowers, trees, pond, vegetable patch, tea table, chairs, stepping stones, mushrooms, bushes, and a full green garden base. This pattern uses amigurumi shaping, flat crochet panels, textured roof fringe, and small sewn details to recreate the cozy handmade diorama shown in the image.
Please note: I strive for accuracy in every pattern, but occasional errors can happen. Thank you for understanding and for enjoying my designs.

General Notes
Work amigurumi pieces in continuous rounds unless the pattern says to join. Use a stitch marker at the first stitch of every round. Stuff firmly enough to hold shape, but do not overstuff small pieces.
The cottage, table, chairs, and garden base are lightly structured. Insert plastic canvas or firm cardboard inside flat panels before final seaming. This keeps the diorama square, stable, and close to the pictured form.
The image has a soft textured crochet look, so use a slightly smaller hook than usual for tight stitches. Keep stitch tension firm and even. For a smoother miniature finish, do not use fuzzy yarn for the bunnies’ faces.
Garden Base
The base is a flat grass rectangle with rounded corners. It supports the cottage on the back left, pond on the front left, vegetable patch in front center, tea set on the right center, trees on the right, and bushes along the front edge.
Main Grass Mat
- With grass green and 3.5 mm hook, ch 46.
- Row 1: sc in 2nd ch from hook and across, ch 1, turn. 45 sc.
- Rows 2-54: sc across, ch 1, turn. 45 sc.
- Border rnd 1: ch 1, sc evenly around all four sides, placing 3 sc in each corner. Join with sl st.
- Border rnd 2: ch 1, sc around, placing 2 sc in the center corner stitch of each corner. Join with sl st.
- Border rnd 3: ch 1, crab stitch or reverse sc around for a neat raised edge. Join and FO.
Cut plastic canvas or firm cardboard slightly smaller than the mat. Sew or glue it underneath if you want the garden to stay perfectly flat. For a fully washable version, use only plastic canvas and yarn stitching.
Raised Grass Texture
- Attach grass green yarn anywhere on the top surface.
- Work random surface slip stitches in short curved lines around the pond, cottage, trees, and tea table area.
- For tiny grass tufts, insert hook into the base, pull up a loop, ch 3, sl st into the same spot, repeat 2 more times, FO.
- Make 20-30 small tufts, mostly near the pond, vegetable patch, and front flower beds.

Cottage Structure

- FO, leaving a long tail for seaming.
Back Wall
Repeat the front wall exactly. On the back wall, do not add door or window details unless you want a full 360-degree display. The pictured cottage mainly shows the front and side, so keep the back simple and cream.
Side Walls
- Make 2 with cream yarn. Ch 17.
- Row 1: sc in 2nd ch from hook and across, ch 1, turn. 16 sc.
- Rows 2-20: sc across, ch 1, turn. 16 sc.

Cut five support pieces from plastic canvas to match the walls and floor. Whipstitch each crochet panel around its support piece. Sew the four walls to the floor, then sew the vertical corners together with cream yarn.

Side Window
- With brown, ch 8.
- Row 1: sc in 2nd ch from hook and across, ch 1, turn. 7 sc.
- Rows 2-6: sc across, ch 1, turn. 7 sc.
- Border with sc around. FO.
Sew the side window to the visible left side wall. Add crossbars with dark brown yarn. Place the window slightly forward, matching the cozy cottage view in the image.
Straw Roof
The roof is the largest texture feature. It is warm yellow, thick, sloped, and covered with looped fringe rows to resemble a thatched straw roof. Small pastel flowers and leaves are sewn across the roof ridges.
Roof Base Panel
- With straw yellow and 3.5 mm hook, ch 36.
- Row 1: sc in 2nd ch from hook and across, ch 1, turn. 35 sc.
- Rows 2-28: sc across, ch 1, turn. 35 sc.
- FO, leaving a long tail.
Fold the roof panel over the gable top of the cottage so 14 rows fall down each side. The roof should overhang the front, back, and side walls by about 0.5 in. Sew the center fold to the gable tips and tack the roof edges to the side walls.
Roof Fringe Rows
- Cut 90 strands of straw yellow yarn, each about 5 in long.
- Starting at the lower roof edge, attach strands as fringe through every other stitch.
- Make three horizontal fringe bands on each roof slope: lower edge, middle, and near the top ridge.
- Trim the fringe unevenly to create the soft thatched look in the image.
- For extra texture, brush the ends lightly with your fingers, not a comb.

Sew the oval bush to the front right corner. Add 8 small flowers and 6 leaves on top, using pink, yellow, white, and lavender yarn. Keep the flowers close together for the full cottage-garden look.
Assembly Layout
- Sew the cottage to the back left of the grass mat, leaving room for the pond at the front left.
- Attach the vegetable patch in front of the cottage, slightly toward the center.
- Sew the pond to the front left corner and surround it with stones, flowers, and grass tufts.
- Place the left bunny in blue overalls between the cottage and pond.
- Place the girl bunny beside the table, facing slightly toward the tea set.
- Sew the table and chairs to the right center area.
- Sew the two trees on the right side, with enough space for the hammock between them.
- Attach the hammock to both trunks and secure the sleeping baby bunny inside.
- Add bushes, mushrooms, stepping stones, flowers, and grass tufts until the base looks full and balanced.
Final Assembly and Facial Detailing
Sew each bunny head to its body with strong, close stitches. Keep the heads upright and slightly forward for a sweet handmade expression. Add a small pink nose with one horizontal stitch and a tiny vertical stitch below it.
For the eyes, use safety eyes or embroidered black knots. Add two tiny blush stitches beside each face if desired. The standing bunnies should look calm and gentle, while the baby bunny should have closed sleepy eyes.
Check all roof flowers, tree leaves, cups, and vegetables. Reinforce anything that may be touched often. Small parts should be sewn firmly, especially if the diorama will be displayed where children can reach it.
Care Notes
- Spot clean with a soft damp cloth.
- Do not soak if cardboard is used inside the cottage or base.
- Let the diorama air dry fully before storing.
- Keep away from direct sunlight to protect pastel yarn colors.
- Use a lint roller gently to remove dust from the grass base and roof fringe.
Quick Checklist Before You Finish
- Cottage is square and firmly attached to the base.
- Roof fringe is trimmed into soft uneven thatch.
- Chimney stands upright on the roof ridge.
- Two standing bunnies have ears, faces, outfits, arms, legs, and tails.
- Sleeping bunny is secured inside the hammock.
- Trees are stable and can hold the hammock shape.
- Tea table has cups, saucers, and teapot.
- Pond has stones, flowers, lily pad, and ripple stitches.
- Vegetable patch has carrots, cabbages, and leafy details.
- All flowers, bushes, mushrooms, and stepping stones are sewn down.
Detailed Cleaning and Preservation Guidelines
To preserve the shape, store the diorama on a flat shelf rather than in a soft bag. If dust gathers on the roof, lift it away with a dry makeup brush or soft craft brush. Avoid pulling the roof fringe.
If a flower or small vegetable loosens, reattach it with matching yarn and a yarn needle. Do not use hot glue on washable yarn pieces unless this project is only for display.
For long-term storage, place acid-free tissue around the trees and cottage roof. Keep the bunnies upright and avoid stacking anything on top of the diorama. A clear display box is ideal for keeping the cozy bunny cottage garden clean and bright.
