This sleepy garden giraffe crochet doll features a soft tan-and-cream giraffe face, closed embroidered eyes, rosy cheeks, a red dotted bow headband, tiny flowers, a cream floral bee dress with a scalloped hem, a green crossbody bag, sunflower sandals, plus matching garden accessories: a straw hat, blue watering can, and potted orange flower.
Please note: I strive for accuracy in every pattern, but occasional errors can happen. Thank you for understanding and for enjoying my designs.
Pattern Overview
This pattern is written in US crochet terms and is designed as a detailed amigurumi-style project. The finished doll has a large rounded sleepy head, slim long neck, small body under a cream dress, thin arms, straight legs, and miniature garden props placed around the doll.
The head is intentionally larger than the body to match the sweet handmade look in the image. The face uses soft color shaping and embroidery instead of plastic eyes, giving the giraffe a peaceful closed-eye expression.
- Finished doll height: about 11.5 inches from sandals to bow tip.
- Main hook: 2.25 mm crochet hook.
- Accessory hook: 2.00 mm crochet hook for flowers, bow dots, and small details.
- Skill level: confident beginner to intermediate.
- Construction: pieces are crocheted separately, stuffed, shaped, embroidered, and sewn together.

- Sport weight cotton yarn in warm cream for face, muzzle, inner ears, dress, and hat center.

Gauge and Tension
Use tight, even amigurumi tension so stuffing does not show through. With sport weight cotton and a 2.25 mm hook, 8 sc across should measure about 1 inch. Exact gauge is less important than keeping all doll parts firm and proportional.
The stitches in the image look compact and smooth, so do not use a loose hook size. If your work gaps when stuffed, go down to a 2.00 mm hook for the body and face pieces.
Main Color Placement
- Head: light tan base with cream oval muzzle and cream vertical face patches.
- Neck: light tan with caramel brown irregular giraffe spots.
- Arms and legs: light tan with caramel brown patch stripes.
- Dress: cream tunic with embroidered flowers, bee, and scalloped lace-style lower edge.
- Accessories: red bow headband, olive bag, mustard sandals with sunflower decorations, straw hat, blue watering can, terracotta flowerpot.
Head
The head is a rounded oval, wider at the cheeks and slightly flatter near the lower face. Work in continuous rounds. Stuff firmly but keep the cheeks soft enough to shape with your fingers before closing.

Cream Face Patches
The image shows soft cream shaping down the front of the giraffe face, forming a pale muzzle area and gentle vertical patches above the closed eyes. Make these pieces thin and sew them flat so they look like colorwork on the face.
Large Muzzle Oval
- With cream yarn, ch 9.
- R1: sc in second ch from hook, sc 6, 3 sc in last ch. Work along other side of chain: sc 6, inc in last ch. (18)
- R2: inc, sc 6, inc 3 times, sc 6, inc 2 times. (24)

- R4: sc around. (30)
- FO, leaving a long tail for sewing.
Pin the muzzle oval across the lower front of the head between R17 and R25. The top edge should sit just below the closed eyelids. Sew around with small stitches, keeping the oval smooth and centered.
Upper Cream Face Stripes

- R1: sc in second ch from hook, sc 8. (9)
- R2: ch 1, turn, dec, sc 5, dec. (7)
- R3: ch 1, turn, dec, sc 3, dec. (5)
- R4: ch 1, turn, dec, sc 1, dec. (3)
- FO, leaving a tail.
Sew one cream stripe above each eye, angled slightly inward toward the center forehead. The wider end sits near the muzzle, and the narrow end points upward toward the headband.
Sleepy Face Embroidery
- Use dark brown thread to embroider two curved closed eyelids across the lower edge of the cream upper patches.
- Each eyelid should be about 9 stitches wide and gently downward curved.
- Add 4 short black lashes under each eye, spacing each lash 1 stitch apart.
- Embroider a small Y-shaped nose and mouth at the center of the muzzle using brown thread.
- Add a tiny vertical mouth line, then split into two soft curves.
- Apply pink blush in round patches on both cheeks, about 1 inch wide.
Ears
The ears are large, rounded, and sit horizontally out from both sides of the head. Each ear has a tan outer layer and cream inner layer. Sew the inner ear onto the outer ear before attaching.
Outer Ears
- Make 2 with light tan yarn. R1: 6 sc in MR. (6)
- R2: inc around. (12)
- R3: (sc 1, inc) around. (18)
- R4: (sc 2, inc) around. (24)
- R5: sc around. (24)
- R6: sc 6, hdc 4, dc 4, hdc 4, sc 6. (24)

Sew the ossicones to the top of the head between R5 and R8, about 8 stitches apart. They should sit behind the headband and partly behind the bow.
Neck
The neck is long and slim, placed directly under the head. It has caramel giraffe spots, including a larger irregular brown patch near the front as shown in the image.
- With light tan yarn, R1: 8 sc in MR. (8)

Sew spots randomly on the front and sides of the neck. Place one medium spot at the front center, one on the upper right side, and smaller spots around the left and back edges.
Body
The body is small compared with the head and mostly hidden by the dress. Use cream or light tan yarn for the body base. The shoulders should be narrow so the dress creates the cute oversized tunic shape.
- With light tan yarn, R1: 6 sc in MR. (6)
- R2: inc around. (12)
- R3: (sc 1, inc) around. (18)
- R4: (sc 2, inc) around. (24)

The arms are narrow and hang down at the sides. Each arm has a caramel brown lower hand area and several brown patch bands over the tan upper arm.
- Make 2. With caramel brown yarn, R1: 6 sc in MR. (6)
- R2: inc around. (12)

Final Assembly and Facial Detailing
After all pieces are attached, check the face from the front. The closed eyes should sit evenly, the muzzle should be centered, and the ears should extend outward at the same height. Add extra cheek blush only after all sewing is finished.
- Use brown thread to deepen the nose if needed.
- Add a few extra lashes if one eye looks lighter than the other.
- Shape the cheeks by gently pressing below the eyes.
- Make sure the bow sits upright and does not cover the sleepy expression.
- Steam-block only the dress hem and hat brim lightly if they curl.
Care Notes
Spot clean the doll with cool water and mild soap. Do not soak if you used blush powder, wire stems, or glued details. Let the doll air dry flat on a towel, reshaping the bow, ears, and dress hem while damp.
Quick Checklist Before You Finish
- Large sleepy giraffe head is firmly attached to the slim neck.
- Both ears are level and angled outward.
- Red bow has white dots and sits centered on the headband.
- Dress has bee embroidery, wildflowers, and scalloped hem.
- Green bag crosses from left shoulder to right hip.
- Sandals include sunflower decorations.
- Straw hat, watering can, and potted flower are completed as matching props.
Detailed Cleaning and Preservation Guidelines
Keep the finished crochet giraffe away from direct sunlight to protect the soft cream, tan, red, and green colors. Store it in a dry place with enough room so the bow, ears, and puff flowers are not crushed.
For long-term display, place the doll on a clean shelf and dust gently with a soft brush. If the accessories are removable, store the straw hat, watering can, and flowerpot beside the doll to preserve the full garden scene.
