This cheerful snowman gardener wears a tall red top hat with a gold band, winter berries, leaves, a pinecone, and a tiny ladybug. He also features oversized round glasses, a long carrot nose, a green scarf, a decorated blue vest, beige cuffed pants, flower-trimmed sandals, a cherry satchel, a harvest basket filled with fruit, and a blue gingham garden blanket.
Please note: I strive for accuracy in every pattern, but occasional errors can happen. Thank you for understanding and for enjoying my designs.
Finished Size and Construction
When made with the recommended yarn and hook, the completed snowman measures approximately 16.5 inches or 42 cm from the bottom of the sandals to the top of the hat. The snowman without the hat measures approximately 12.5 inches or 32 cm tall.
The head, body, legs, nose, arms, hat, clothing, footwear, satchel, fruit basket, and blanket are crocheted separately. The pieces are firmly stuffed, positioned with pins, and sewn together in a controlled order so the finished figure stands securely and matches the proportions shown.
- Skill level: Intermediate.
- Terminology: US crochet terms.
- Main technique: Continuous spiral rounds.
- Recommended hook: 2.5 mm crochet hook.
- Finished height: Approximately 16.5 inches or 42 cm with the hat.
- Recommended stuffing: Firm polyester fiberfill.
Materials
- DK or light worsted cotton yarn in white, approximately 160 yards.
- DK yarn in bright red for the hat, berries, cherries, and buttons.
- DK yarn in carrot orange for the nose.
- DK yarn in medium green for the scarf and leaves.
- DK yarn in dusty blue for the vest and gingham blanket.
- DK yarn in warm beige for the pants, bag, basket, and blanket.
- DK yarn in dark brown for the twig arms, shoe edges, pinecone, and embroidery.
- DK yarn in caramel brown for sandal straps.
- Small amounts of gold, yellow, black, pink, purple, lime green, rust, and cream yarn.
- Two 12 mm black safety eyes.
- Two large red four-hole buttons, approximately 18 mm.
- One small white button for the vest decoration.
- Black embroidery thread for the smile, eye details, bee stripes, and glasses attachment.
- Thin black craft wire, approximately 1.5 mm thick, for the round glasses.
- Polyester fiberfill.
- Yarn needle, stitch marker, scissors, sewing pins, and row counter.
- Optional plastic canvas circles for reinforcing the hat brim and sandal soles.
Gauge and Tension
Gauge is not essential, but firm tension is important. A useful amigurumi gauge is approximately 6 single crochet stitches and 6 rounds per inch. The stitches should be tight enough that stuffing does not show through the fabric.
Use a hook one or two sizes smaller than the yarn label recommends. Keep the tension consistent throughout the head and body. A noticeably looser tension in the clothing may make the pants, vest, hat, or sandals too large.

Important Pattern Notes
- Work all amigurumi pieces in continuous spiral rounds unless instructed otherwise.
- Place a stitch marker in the first stitch of every round.
- Numbers in parentheses show the stitch count at the end of the round.
- Stuff the head and body gradually so the shape remains smooth.
- Do not overstuff thin pieces such as the twig arms, fingers, scarf, or nose.
- For a child-safe version, embroider the eyes and replace the craft-wire glasses with crocheted rings.
Large Snowman Head
Use white yarn. The head is broad and slightly oval, with the widest area positioned around the eyes and cheeks. Stuff firmly while preserving a smooth, rounded surface.

FO with a long sewing tail. Place the eye panels side by side across Head Rounds 13-22. Their inner edges should nearly touch at the center. Sew each panel around the outer edge without stretching it.
Insert or attach one 12 mm black eye through each eye panel before sewing the final section. Position each eye slightly toward the center, approximately between the third and fourth rounds of its white panel.
With black embroidery thread, make five or six short eyelashes around the lower and outer edge of each white eye panel. Keep each stitch approximately 0.2 inch or 5 mm long.
Carrot Nose
Use carrot-orange yarn. The nose is long, tapered, and slightly curved downward. Stuff it lightly so it remains firm without becoming thick.

FO with a long tail. Add small amounts of stuffing with the blunt end of the hook. Sew the open base centered between the eye panels, approximately across Head Rounds 20-24.
Pull the sewing thread slightly tighter along the lower edge of the nose to angle the tip downward. Add four short horizontal surface stitches in a slightly darker orange to imitate natural carrot ridges.
Smile and Facial Details
Use doubled black embroidery thread. Begin the smile approximately one inch to the left of the nose base. Form a shallow upward curve beneath the nose and finish approximately one inch to the right.
Secure the smile with four tiny couching stitches so the curve stays smooth. Add one short upward curve at each end. Embroider several tiny black dash stitches across the forehead and cheeks to imitate the scattered coal-like marks shown in the image.
Snowman Torso
Use white yarn. The torso is narrower than the head and slightly rounded at the stomach. The top opening becomes the neck connection.

Stuff firmly, keeping the lower stomach round and the upper chest narrower. FO with a long tail. Sew the 24-stitch torso opening evenly to the 24-stitch head opening.
Before closing the seam completely, add extra stuffing inside the neck. The head should remain upright without leaning forward under the weight of the hat.
Red Decorative Body Buttons
Make two crocheted buttons with red yarn, or use two large red four-hole buttons for the closest match to the image.
- R1: Work 8 hdc in an MR. Join with a sl st. (8)
- R2: Ch 1, work 2 sc in each stitch. Join. (16)
FO and leave a sewing tail. Add four small black or burgundy stitches across the center to imitate buttonholes. Sew one button at the middle chest and the second at the lower stomach, leaving approximately 1.5 inches between them.

- Place the blue vest around the body and secure it with hidden stitches.
- Sew the red buttons down the visible center of the white torso.
- Wrap and secure the green scarf around the neck.
- Position the satchel strap diagonally across the chest.
- Place the basket near the right twig hand and tack the handle to one finger.
- Sew the eye panels, eyes, nose, smile, and glasses securely.
- Position the decorated red top hat slightly tilted and sew it to the head.
Stand the snowman on a flat surface before tightening the final leg and sandal seams. Adjust the angle of the legs until both soles rest evenly. The basket may be lightly stitched to the right sandal or pant leg for additional display stability.
Care Notes
Spot-clean the snowman with a soft damp cloth and mild soap. Avoid soaking the craft-wire glasses, hat reinforcement, safety eyes, or plastic canvas inserts. Press the cleaned area gently with a dry towel and allow the figure to air-dry completely.
Do not machine wash or tumble dry the assembled figure. Keep it away from strong heat, open flames, prolonged direct sunlight, and high humidity.
Quick Checklist Before You Finish
- Confirm that every opening is fully closed.
- Check that the head and hat remain upright.
- Make sure both eye panels are level.
- Check that all wire ends are completely covered.
- Confirm that the sandals rest flat.
- Secure the vest decorations, cherries, fruit, flowers, and buttons.
- Trim or weave in every loose yarn end.
- Shape the scarf fringe and twig fingers evenly.
Detailed Cleaning and Preservation Guidelines
Remove surface dust regularly with a clean, soft makeup brush. Support delicate pieces such as the glasses, hat decorations, twig fingers, and basket handle while cleaning around them.
For a small stain, mix cool water with a drop of gentle detergent. Dab the area without rubbing, then remove the soap with another damp cloth. Blot with a towel and reshape the piece while it dries.
Store the snowman upright in a breathable box. Place acid-free tissue around the hat, arms, basket, and sandals to prevent pressure damage. Do not place heavy items on top of the figure or fold the glasses against the face.
