Please note: I strive for accuracy in every pattern, but occasional errors can happen. Thank you for understanding and for enjoying my designs.
Pattern Overview
This amigurumi is worked mostly in continuous rounds using tight single crochet stitches. The finished doll is shaped with a large oval head, a projecting rounded muzzle, a slim seated body, long arms, straight legs, and oversized sandal feet.
The outfit is made separately and sewn onto the doll. The overalls sit high on the chest, with blue shoulder straps, a flower collar across the neckline, cuffed shorts, and small embroidered garden motifs.
The aviator helmet is crocheted as a fitted brown cap with two hanging side flaps. The gray goggles are made from two ring lenses joined across the top of the helmet.
Finished Size
- Finished height seated: about 12 inches from sandal sole to top of helmet.
- Head width: about 4.5 inches across the widest cheek area.
- Body height: about 4.75 inches from neck to bottom of shorts.
- Leg length: about 3.25 inches before sandals.
- Satchel size: about 2.25 inches wide and 1.75 inches tall.
- Watering can size: about 2.25 inches long from spout tip to handle.
- Potted sprout height: about 2.5 inches including pot and leaves.
Skill Level
Intermediate beginner to intermediate. The main doll uses basic amigurumi shaping. The small accessories require careful counting, neat sewing, embroidery, and patient finishing.
Materials
- Worsted weight cotton or cotton-acrylic yarn in white, black, denim blue, brown, gray, red, tan, terracotta, green, yellow, pink, peach, purple, light blue, cream, and dark green.
- US size B-1 or C-2 crochet hook, 2.25 mm to 2.75 mm, depending on tension.
- Polyester fiberfill.
- Yarn needle.
- Stitch markers.
- Small scissors.
- Black embroidery floss for smile, closed eye, toe lines, and tiny details.
- Optional pipe cleaner for watering can handle and sprout stem.
- Optional cardboard or plastic canvas for the bottom of the satchel and flower pot.
Gauge and Tension
Work tightly so stuffing does not show. A good amigurumi gauge is about 6 single crochet stitches and 6 rounds per inch with worsted weight yarn and a 2.5 mm hook.
Gauge is not critical, but all pieces should be made with the same hook and similar tension. The muzzle must stay slightly firmer than the body so it projects clearly from the face.

- Smile: begin near the lower side of the muzzle, curve gently backward and upward along the cheek, then stop before the helmet edge.
- Mouth thickness: use one strand of black embroidery floss for a fine line.
- Nose highlight: optional tiny gray stitch on the upper left side of the black nose.
Head to Body Assembly
Position the head horizontally, with the muzzle pointing forward and slightly downward. The head should feel larger than the body, matching the cute oversized character proportion in the image.
- Place the body upright in a seated position.
- Set the head on the neck opening so the muzzle points forward.
- Tilt the head slightly to the doll’s left for a relaxed garden pose.
- Pin the head in place before sewing.
- Sew around the neck twice using the long body tail.
- Add extra stitches at the back of the neck so the head does not wobble.
Leg Placement
The legs are sewn to the lower front of the body so they extend forward over the edge of a bench. The sandals should face upward and slightly outward.
- Pin each leg under the shorts opening.
- Leave about 0.5 inch between the inner thighs.
- Angle both legs forward at about 90 degrees from the body.
- Sew firmly around the top flattened edge of each leg.
- After sewing, pull the shorts cuffs slightly over the tops of the legs.
Arm Placement
The arms sit at the sides of the upper body, partly behind the overall straps. They hang straight down with a soft curve at the wrists.
- Pin each arm 1 round below the neckline.
- Angle the arms downward along the sides of the body.
- The paw tips should reach near the lower bib or upper shorts.
- Sew each arm securely through the flattened top edge.
- Add one hidden tack stitch near each wrist to keep the hands close to the body.
Helmet and Ear Assembly
Place the helmet after the head is attached. The brown helmet should cover the back of the head and frame the white face.
- Place the helmet on the head with the open edge framing the muzzle and face.
- The front helmet edge should sit just above the embroidered eye.
- Pin the helmet all around before sewing.
- Sew the helmet edge with brown yarn using small hidden stitches.
- Place each white ear under a side flap, with the ear hanging down vertically.
- Sew the top of each ear under the helmet edge.
- Tack the brown flap over the upper ear so it looks layered.
Goggle Placement
The goggles sit on top of the helmet, not over the eyes. They are decorative aviator goggles, tilted slightly toward the front.
- Place both gray rings side by side on top of the helmet.
- Let the right ring sit slightly higher than the left ring for a handmade tilted look.
- Sew each ring down through the back loops of the ring edge.
- Sew the bridge between the two rings.
- Tack the back strap to the helmet so it appears to wrap behind the goggles.
Scarf and Collar Placement
The red scarf goes first, then the flower collar sits below it. The scarf tails should be visible on the front-left side.
- Wrap the red scarf around the neck under the head.
- Cross the ends at the front-left side.
- Sew the scarf lightly at the back and under the chin.
- Place the green collar base below the scarf and above the overall bib.
- Sew the collar only at the back and shoulders so the flower row remains raised.
- Sew the tiny flowers across the front neckline.
Satchel Placement
The satchel strap crosses the chest diagonally. The bag rests at the doll’s right hip, with the seed packet and trowel showing above the rim.
- Place the strap over the doll’s left shoulder.
- Bring it diagonally across the front of the overalls.
- Position the bag at the right side of the waist.
- Tack the strap at the shoulder and back waist.
- Tack the bag to the side of the body so it does not swing.
- Insert the seed packet and trowel, then sew them lightly inside the bag.
Final Assembly and Facial Detailing
Check the face before adding final knots. The nose should sit centered on the muzzle, the smile should curve gently upward, and the closed eye should look peaceful rather than surprised.
- Add the helmet butterfly and ladybug after the goggles are secure.
- Attach the sandals after legs are sewn, then embroider toe lines.
- Sew the watering can and potted sprout separately as props, or tack them to a display base.
- Brush loose yarn fibers gently with your fingers, not a wire brush.
- Trim all tails close only after every piece is firmly attached.
Care Notes
Spot clean the finished doll with cool water and a mild soap. Avoid soaking the goggles, flowers, seed packet, and tiny embroidered areas because small pieces may lose shape.
Let the doll air dry flat on a towel. Gently reshape the helmet, muzzle, satchel, sandals, and flower pot while damp.

Detailed Cleaning and Preservation Guidelines
Store the doll away from direct sunlight to prevent fading, especially on the red scarf, denim overalls, and small flower details. Keep it in a dry place with gentle airflow.
For long-term display, support the seated body from underneath so the legs do not stretch. Keep the satchel strap flat across the body to preserve the diagonal shape.
Do not machine wash this piece. The small appliqués, goggles, seed packet, trowel, butterfly, ladybug, and flower collar are decorative details and should be handled carefully.
To refresh the shape, gently press the head, muzzle, body, and pot with clean hands. Reposition the scarf tails, goggles, and satchel after cleaning so the finished doll keeps the same garden aviator look.
