This little knitted tiger amigurumi is designed to match the image with a round cub face, button eyes, embroidered tiger stripes, a cream striped cardigan, soft sitting legs, tiny paw details, a small crown, a backpack with a tiger face, a separate earflap hat, and a small acorn blanket accessory. The finished toy has a cozy woodland look with warm golden tiger fur, brown markings, and chunky handmade texture.
Please note: I strive for accuracy in every pattern, but occasional errors can happen. Thank you for understanding and for enjoying my designs.
Finished Size and Construction Style
This pattern makes a seated tiger cub about 10 inches tall from the bottom to the top of the crown when worked with worsted weight yarn and firm stuffing. The body is knitted in separate amigurumi-style pieces, then seamed and shaped so the toy sits naturally with the legs angled forward.
The tiger is built with a large rounded head, short muzzle, small rounded ears, a pear-shaped body, long soft arms, bent sitting legs, and a striped tail. The cream cardigan is worked as a separate garment and sewn lightly to the body so it looks like a snug sweater coat.
- Skill level: Advanced beginner to intermediate.
- Main method: Small pieces knitted flat and seamed, with several pieces worked in the round if preferred.
- Finished look: Soft knitted tiger cub with visible stockinette texture, dark embroidered stripes, cozy cardigan, crown, backpack, hat, and acorn blanket.
- Gauge: 6 stitches and 8 rows per 1 inch in stockinette stitch, measured after stuffing lightly.

Important Knitting Notes
Use a firm gauge so the stuffing does not show through the stitches. The photographed tiger has clear knitted V-shaped texture, rounded shaping, and smooth seams. Stuff each piece gradually, using small amounts at a time so the face and limbs stay round instead of lumpy.
All stripe embroidery is added after the pieces are stuffed and sewn. This gives the tiger face its illustrated expression. Work the stripes with dark brown yarn using short duplicate stitch, straight stitch, and small curved backstitches over the knitted fabric.
- Keep all seams on the underside or back where possible.
- Use the golden orange yarn for the main tiger body.
- Use cream patches around the eyes and muzzle to match the light markings in the image.
- Use dark brown stripes unevenly, not perfectly symmetrical, for a natural cub face.
- Attach the crown slightly tilted toward the back top of the head.
Main Head
The head is large and round with a slightly wider cheek area. Knit it flat in two shaped panels, then seam around the edge. Leave a small opening at the neck for stuffing and attachment.

Seaming and Stuffing the Head
Place the two head panels together with RS facing. Sew from the lower left neck edge around the head and down to the lower right neck edge. Turn RS out. Stuff firmly at the cheeks first, then the forehead, then the back of the head.
The head should look round and full, with a soft cub shape. Do not overstuff the lower neck opening, because it needs to sit neatly on the cardigan-covered body.
White and Cream Face Patches
The face has pale patches around the eyes and sides of the muzzle. These are small knitted appliqués sewn onto the stuffed head. Their edges should blend into the orange face with embroidery later.
Eye Patches, Make 2
- With cream yarn, CO 5 sts.
- Row 1: Purl all sts.

- Row 9: P2tog, p5, p2tog. 7 sts.
- Row 10: K2tog, k3, k2tog. 5 sts.

Sew one patch slightly below each eye position. Angle the inner edge downward toward the muzzle. Leave a narrow orange bridge between the two patches so the tiger forehead remains visible.
Muzzle Oval

- Row 1: Purl all sts.
- Row 2: Kfb, k6, kfb. 10 sts.
- Row 3: Purl all sts.

- Row 11: P2tog, p8, p2tog. 10 sts.
- Row 12: K2tog, k6, k2tog. 8 sts.
- BO all sts.
Sew the muzzle oval across the lower center of the face. Curve the top edge gently below the eyes. Add a tiny amount of stuffing under the center before closing the final stitches so the muzzle is slightly raised.
Nose, Mouth, and Tongue
The nose is small, pink, triangular, and placed at the top center of the muzzle. The mouth forms a soft downward split with a little pink tongue showing below, matching the playful expression in the image.
- With pink yarn, embroider a triangle over 4 stitches wide and 3 rows tall at the top center of the muzzle.
- Fill the triangle with satin stitches from top to bottom.
- With dark brown yarn, stitch one vertical line down 4 rows from the nose point.
- Work two curved mouth lines, each about 5 stitches long, from the bottom of the vertical line outward and down.
- For the tongue, CO 4 sts with pink yarn.
- Knit 3 rows in st st.
- Row 4: K2tog twice. 2 sts.
- BO the 2 sts and sew under the mouth, letting it sit flat against the muzzle.
Eyes
The tiger has dark button eyes with bright stitched highlights. Place the eyes wide apart so the face stays cute and cub-like. The buttons should sit over the upper part of the cream eye patches.
- Mark eye placement about 9 rows above the top of the muzzle.
- Leave about 8 knitted stitches between the inner edges of the buttons.
- Sew each button through the head securely using doubled sewing thread or yarn.
- Pull slightly to create a gentle eye dimple.
- With white yarn, add one small highlight stitch on each button if the button holes do not already create a highlight.
Ears
The ears are small rounded tiger ears with tan inner centers and dark edging. They sit on the upper sides of the head, not directly on top. The angle should lean slightly outward.

Sew each tan inner ear onto an orange outer ear. With dark brown yarn, whipstitch loosely around the outer ear edge. Fold the lower edge slightly inward and sew to the head between rows 11 and 17 from the top, about 10 stitches away from the center crown line.
Body
The body is shorter than the head and rounded like a seated cub. It is mostly hidden by the cardigan, but the lower orange belly and hip area should remain full enough to support the sitting legs.

Seam each main leg into a tube. Stuff lightly at the thigh and more firmly at the foot end. Sew the foot top to the lower front of the leg, then sew the dark sole under it. Shape the leg with the foot angled upward so it sits like the tiger in the photo.
Toe and Foot Detailing
- With cream yarn, embroider three short toe marks on the top of each foot, each 3 stitches long.
- With dark brown yarn, add 3 horizontal stripes around each lower leg.
- Place one stripe close to the ankle, one at mid-shin, and one near the knee.
- Use small duplicate stitches so the stripes look knitted into the fabric.

- With cream yarn, add two small cheek-like curved stitches on the outer side of each paw.
- With dark brown yarn, add one narrow wrist stripe above each paw.
Tail
The tail is long, narrow, curved, and striped. It sits behind the body and curls to the side, visible beside the leg. Stuff it lightly so it bends naturally.
- With golden orange yarn, CO 8 sts.
- Rows 1 to 36: Work in st st.

Seam each sleeve into a tube. Sew one sleeve into each cardigan armhole. Slide the stuffed tiger arm through the sleeve, leaving about 1 inch of orange paw showing. Tack the sleeve lightly to the arm so it stays in place.
Cardigan Collar
The collar is thick and ribbed, sitting high around the tiger’s neck like the cozy cream neckband shown in the image.
- With cream yarn, pick up or CO 34 sts along the cardigan neck edge.
- Rows 1 to 5: K1, p1 rib across.
- Row 6: Knit all sts loosely.
- BO loosely in knit.
Fold the collar slightly outward and tack it in place with small stitches. It should frame the tiger head without covering the lower muzzle.
Cardigan Buttons and Acorn Bobbles
The front of the cardigan has a vertical line of brown acorn-like buttons. You may use small wooden buttons, brown beads, or knitted bobbles. Knitted bobbles give the closest soft toy finish.
Knitted Button Bobble, Make 5
- With dark brown yarn, CO 4 sts.
- Row 1: Kfb in each st. 8 sts.
- Row 2: Purl all sts.
- Row 3: K2tog across. 4 sts.
- Cut yarn, thread through sts, pull tight, and seam into a tiny ball.
Sew the five bobbles down the tiger’s left cardigan front, spacing them about 4 rows apart. Add a tiny tan straight stitch across the top of each bobble so it resembles an acorn cap.
Leaf Embroidery on Cardigan
The lower front of the cardigan has small brown leaf motifs. Work them after the cardigan is on the body so the placement curves naturally across the belly.
- With brown yarn, embroider two stems, each 5 stitches long, at the lower front center.
- Add two leaf stitches on each side of each stem using lazy daisy embroidery.
- Make each leaf about 3 knitted stitches long.
- Place the leaves just above the ribbed hem.
Tiger Face Stripe Embroidery
The face stripes are one of the most important parts of this design. They create the recognizable tiger expression. Use dark brown yarn and work slowly, checking both sides as you go.
Forehead Stripes
- Stitch one central dark brown V shape from the top center down toward the eyes, about 7 rows tall.
- Add one shorter V shape on each side, each about 5 rows tall.
- Use duplicate stitch over 2 to 3 stitches per stripe for a bold knitted look.
- Add two small dark lines above each eye patch.
Cheek Stripes
- On each cheek, add three curved stripes slanting downward toward the muzzle.
- Make the top stripe 6 stitches long.
- Make the middle stripe 5 stitches long.
- Make the lower stripe 4 stitches long.
- Keep the stripes slightly uneven so the face looks natural and handmade.
Muzzle Whisker Marks
- With dark brown yarn, add three short whisker dots or dashes on each side of the muzzle.
- Each dash should be 1 to 2 stitches wide.
- Place them just outside the tan muzzle oval.
Body Stripe Embroidery
Add body stripes only where the cardigan does not cover the tiger. The visible orange paws, thighs, tail, and sides need dark markings to match the image.
- Add 3 short stripes to each outer thigh.
- Add 2 stripes to each upper arm near the paw.
- Add 2 dark lines on the sides of the head below the ears.
- Add several stripes to the tail, wrapping them partway around instead of making perfect rings.
- Use cream yarn for small light patches on the paws and cheeks if needed.
Tiny Crown
The crown is small, tan, and sits on the tiger’s head. It has pointed tips and an open handmade shape. Knit it flat, then seam it into a ring.
- With tan yarn, CO 24 sts.
- Rows 1 to 3: Knit every row.
- Row 4: K2, BO 2 sts, k2, BO 2 sts, k2, BO 2 sts, k2, BO 2 sts, k2, BO 2 sts, k2.
- Row 5: Knit across, casting on 2 sts over each bound-off gap to return to 24 sts.
- Row 6: K1, k2tog, k1, turn.
- Row 7: P3.
- Row 8: K3tog, fasten point.
- Rejoin yarn at next 4-stitch section and repeat Rows 6 to 8 until 6 points are made.
Seam the short ends of the crown together. Place it slightly behind the center top of the head. Sew around the lower edge using small stitches, leaving the points standing upright.

- With dark brown yarn, CO 6 sts for the cap.
- Knit 3 rows.
- BO and sew over the top of the acorn.
Sew the acorns to the blanket center. Add a tiny green stem and a few small pink flower stitches around them. Keep the embroidery low and flat so the blanket looks like a soft miniature picnic mat.
Pink Flower Detail Near Foot
The image shows a tiny pink flower beside the foot. Add this as a final decorative stitch on the blanket edge or near the tiger’s ankle.
- With pink yarn, make 5 lazy daisy petals, each 2 stitches long.
- With tan yarn, add one knot stitch in the flower center.
- With green yarn, add one short leaf stitch beside the flower.
Joining the Body
Before sewing all parts together, pin the tiger in a seated position. The head should be large and centered, the legs should point forward, and the arms should hang naturally along the cardigan sides.
- Sew the body neck opening closed enough to hold its shape.
- Place the head on the neck with the muzzle facing forward.
- Use golden orange yarn to sew the head to the body in a full circle.
- Go around the neck twice for strength.
- Sew the legs to the lower front sides of the body, angled outward.
- Sew the arms at the upper sides, just under the cardigan shoulder seams.
- Sew the tail to the back lower body and curve it to one side.
- Dress the tiger in the cardigan and tack it lightly at the shoulders, underarms, and lower back.
How to Make the Tiger Sit Correctly
The toy should sit with its belly upright and legs relaxed forward. To get this position, add extra stuffing to the lower back and hips before closing the body. Keep the thighs lightly stuffed where they connect to the body.
- Attach each leg between rows 6 and 11 from the lower body edge.
- Angle the feet outward by about 25 degrees.
- Keep the soles facing slightly forward and upward.
- Use several hidden stitches under each thigh to stabilize the sitting position.
- Do not sew the legs too high, or the tiger will tip backward.
Detailed Stripe Placement Guide
For the most accurate look, place the stripe embroidery after all major pieces are attached. This lets you continue stripes across curves and avoid hiding them under seams or clothing.

Optional Dark Tail Tip
If you want the tail to match the darker tip seen in many tiger designs, add a dark end cap after the stripes are complete.
- Thread dark brown yarn onto a tapestry needle.
- Cover the final 5 rows of the tail tip with duplicate stitch.
- Wrap one dark ring around the base of the tip.
- Secure all ends inside the tail.
Adding the Crown Securely
The crown should look light and decorative, not heavy. Do not stuff it. The points should stand freely with a slightly uneven handmade shape.
- Place the crown between the ears, slightly behind the forehead stripe.
- Sew only the bottom edge to the head.
- Use tan yarn so the stitches disappear.
- Keep the front points visible from the front view.
Final Assembly and Facial Detailing
Check the full toy from the front before weaving in the last ends. The face should be centered, with the button eyes level and the muzzle slightly raised. Add extra small brown stitches wherever the tiger needs stronger expression.
- Sew the head firmly so it does not wobble.
- Make sure the cardigan collar sits below the muzzle.
- Check that the backpack is visible over one shoulder.
- Trim no yarn ends too close; weave them through the stuffing area first.
- Use pink yarn to refresh the nose and tongue if they become hidden by the muzzle stitches.
Care Notes
This knitted tiger is a decorative handmade toy. Because it uses buttons and small sewn accessories, it is best for display or gentle play by older children. For a baby-safe version, replace buttons with embroidered eyes and sew all small pieces permanently.
- Spot clean with cool water and mild soap.
- Do not machine wash if using buttons, beads, or cardboard inside the backpack.
- Reshape the head, legs, and cardigan while damp.
- Air dry flat on a towel.

Detailed Cleaning and Preservation Guidelines
Keep the tiger away from direct sunlight for long periods, because warm golden and brown yarns can fade. Store it upright or seated so the legs and tail keep their shape. If the cardigan flattens, gently lift the collar and sleeves with your fingers.
For long-term storage, wrap the tiger loosely in acid-free tissue or a clean cotton cloth. Do not compress the crown, backpack, or ears. Add a small lavender sachet nearby if desired, but do not let scented oils touch the yarn.
- Refresh the shape by gently squeezing the stuffing back into place.
- Use a lint roller lightly if dust gathers on the cardigan.
- Do not brush the button eyes with rough tools.
- Check seams once in a while, especially at the legs, head, and backpack straps.
